Disappointed

The two gentlemen that showed up worked quickly and did clean up after themselves including the wires. However, they weren't very helpful. They were negative about the items I had purchased. They did not offer any additional information. When I asked if the speakers were calibrated correctly, he shrugged and said yep. No demonstration. No DVD to test the sound system. No detailed explanation of what they did and what was accomplished. I've hand more customer service from an appliance delivery.

Horrible buying Geek Squad online

I purchase Geek Squad online and you follow up with me 10 days later via postcard to schedule an appointment? What year is this? I thought you were a technology leader. Ever heard of email? I had to wait a week after placing the order online and then had to call customer service to find out what's going on. I had the agent complete all the work in my house by the time I got the stupid postcard.

Bought a new 46" LCD Jan 26 and was told the earliest setup possible was Feb 1 (Superbowl Sunday). I said fine and was told they would be out between 8AM and noon. He called the night before and said he was overbooked and it would probably be close to noon, we said fine. I was immediatly disappointed when he showed up alone in a Volkswagon. I knew 2 things right off the bat, 1. he'd need help, and 2. he wouldn't be taking the trash with him. Right on both counts. We had a problem in that the mounting bracket on the stand I purchased wouldn't fit the TV. Not his fault and we decided to proceed, just putting the TV on the table part of the stand. He explained he was the only one that worked on Sunday, that's why he was alone. He proceeded to hook up all the components, TV, BluRay, DVD/VCR, and surround sound system. He neatly tiewrapped the cables, but the pile behind the stand was a mess of spaghetti. He said he still had several other appointments in the day. Since I knew he was rushed, after showing me a couple of basics, I let him go. I got a bracket to modify the stand and am now in the process of rewiring everything to get it the way I want it. I'm having to cut all his tiewraps to make the cables fit and reroute everything. If they had told me he'd be alone, I gladly would have waited until they could have done it right and spend some time explaining things. Maybe then I would have realized how he'd wired things up and could have had it wired the way I wanted it the first time, hooking up components to the SS, leaving enough slack in the cables to account for putting it on the mounting brackets, etc. I'm slowly cutting up the boxes, etc. to feed into the weekly recycle bin. About another 2 weeks and that should be done. Bestbuy really put this poor guy into a bad situation and I will be going back to the store to talk to the manager about it.

Don't get your home theater installed by Best Buy.

My whole experience was not great. It took them several months to get me on the schedule and once they installed my home theater, they left without making sure the subwoofers worked correctly. Then they would not come correct the issue unless I paid a $100 fee. Despite the promise that they would be there to support me, and despite the fact that I am a total tech member. I've wasted 3 hours being passed around customer care with no resolution.

Have some common sense

purchased a Samsung TV complete with home theater system and installation, details on order number above. I assumed by purchasing this package, everything that was needed was included as advertised. I assumed that they would come to the house, install everything and leave on the confirmed delivery date. We got the packages individually one by one and on the date the TV came they said they don't install it...you have to make an appointment?? Why would anyone who buys this package want it delivered and installed on separate dates?? How is it even possible that it wouldn't be assumed that the delivery and installation doesn't coincide with one another? Do you think people just like to store huge boxes at home? Then once they came again to install we found we needed another $70 cable that oddly enough was not part of the home theater package. If you needed 2 cables, why not tell you up front?? The delivery people and geek squad were very friendly and I do not blame them...I totally blame the ambiguity of the order which I assumed was clear but did not count on the people writing it had no common sense. When putting these special offers out next time make sure they are clear as to when they are delivered and installed and exactly what was needed as this experience was unpleasant and aggravating and I had to arrange for people to be home on multiple days for this.

incomplete service

After buying a new TV, home theater system and Blu-Ray player, I really didn't want to take the time to mess with all the cords and hassles of getting it all set up correctly. This service was easy to set up. THey called when supposed to, arrived when they were supposed, and the representative who came was extremely friendly. He got things put together well - no problems. My wife and I had to be somewhere that evening (we had not previously planned on) so things were a bit hurried. I'm still not totally convinced I needed as many HDMI cables as he sold me, but what do I know? We decided we would like to get a universal remote - he said that since we were getting that and since we were already running late, he would come back with it and dress the cables at that time. I also got a very cursory and quick lesson in how to work things. That was a month ago, and we still haven't heard back, my cables still aren't dressed, I'm still trying to figure the system out, and I still have my old TV sitting in my garage - in short, the job isn't finished. I called him once and he said he would be calling me to set it up - that was 3 weeks ago. SPeaking of the old TV, the web site said they would take away the old one - he said there was a restriction to 32" or less (mine was 36"). ALso, I had to remind him to take boxes, etc. or I suspect those would have wound up in my garage as well. Our system is set up - it works - he was knowledgeable and polite - the job just isn't finished and my call obviously did nothing. I would recommend to others, but would recommend riding herd on them a bit harder than I did while they are there and being more involved in just exactly what cables I need to buy.

home theater set up

The price was a bit steep for what had to be done. I already had the home theater set up with an old receiver. They just had to swap out the old receiver and program it to work with the blue ray and tv. The price for service should be broken down to suit the job.

These Guys Were Great!

Except for one minor thing, we couldn't have been happier with our experience with the Geek Squad. They were quick to get to work, understood how the components worked individually and worked together. One of them customized the picture on our flat panel, and it's the best pic of all the choices. My wife was disappointed that our new sound system could not support our old multi-CD changer and utilize our old, but terrific, speakers. While one of the fellows was programming the various components into the cable universal remote, the other, on his own, hooked up the CD changer to our old tuner, tape deck and speakers. She was thrilled. These guys really went well beyond the call of duty. They finished up with written instructions for operating our system as a whole and operating the individual units. They were great. The one thing, though, that I wish they, or I, had thought of was to get the serial number off of the BluRay Player before it was fitted into the system. It's going to be a bear to get it now. But overall, I can't rave enough about the work these young men did.
