Upon buying this DVD it had a blue sleeve over it so i didnt know what to expect since i couldnt acsess the information on the back of the DVD. Ive been a hardcore Ghost in the Shell fan for many years now. but this dvd was a real dissapointment. Thinking it was going to be more back story about the Laughing man, but this movie is mostly just clips from the first season of Stand Alone Complex, and they changed all the charaters voices. it wouldnt of bothered me so much if they even attempted to make the voices fit the charater, but for instance they made Batou British. whats up with that? it didnt seem like anyone except the Tachikomas had their original voice. there was missing dialogue and it jumps around a lot to cover just the parts spoken about the laughing man himself (who was also played by a deeper voiced actor, being a boy is in his teens, or 20's, he had a 30-40 year old voice actor). its good because its Ghost in the shell... but i didnt very much like anything else about it.

honestly the first season was well done and this cut of the season to fit into two hours was great. They cut out alot of filler and what remains is important to the main story line. The dvd is well done and keeps a great pace when; granted for those who have watched the first season you will miss the side stories and humor / development of the Tachikoma's which can leave most new comers a bit behind near the end but its nothing major. The feeling of the show translate well and leaves the dvd well off for those that are just starting in the anime world or for those die hard fans that want to introduce someone into the genre. Great for your collection. The music was greatly composed by Yoko Kanno; the music helps move the story along with a nice upbeat pace.
