Take a mp3 player and put it on shuffle. That's what this game's song list feels like. Which, that's not necessarily a bad thing, because I like most of the songs provided on this game. And, I appreciate the fact that GH is branching out to other genres of music by selecting bands/artists that you wouldn't expect, such as Gorillaz, Stevie Wonder, or Elton John. In my opinion, all the variety makes for a quite nice setlist. Plus, any purchased DLC (songs you downloaded for GHWT) are listed in your song list on this game, which is very very nice.
As far as the gameplay goes, there have been a few additions that are nice. The instant quickplay is different. As soon as you get into the GH5 game, it begins playing a song, and you have the choice of playing the song or going to the menu. Also, the jump in option is nice. For example, if one of your buddies or rocking comrades wants to join in, you no longer have to restart the song. They can jump in or out at anytime, which is an AWESOME addition to the game.
Overall, i'm pleased with my purchase so far. I'm especially pleased considering that i'll be receiving GH Van Halen due to this purchase, which makes this purchase a no brainer.
So, my advice is to definitely buy this game, especially if your wanting GHVH, and if you want it for free. My only complaint is that Nintendo decided to make this game $60 rather than $50. I realize that its only $10, but hey, we're in a slow economy, lol.

Out of all the iterations of Guitar Hero this may be the best once yet -- but for reasons of gameplay and compatibility and not song list. It seems like the best songs are already taken by previous Guitar Hero and Rock Band games and I will not fault the game for this.
The best features of GH5 are:
1. the ability to play 2 or more guitars - instead of having to fight over who will play guitar or bass
2. party play - anyone can drop-in or drop-out as they choose
3. compatibility with Rock Band instruments (finally! RB instruments are so much better)
I still prefer Rock Band 2 over GH5 though. In GH5, the note charts are still overly difficult (a good thing for other players, but not for me) and graphics are still cartoony (which bothers me and not others). I predict that the success of GH5 will be determined by the growing number of pay-to-download songs (in which RB2 already has a massive collection) and the ability to import songs from older Guitar Hero games (such as World Tour and Smash Hits) for a small fee, which I haven't yet done.

With GH World Tour as my first foray in this, I was really excited to get into GH 5. I have to say that I'm disappointed. The songs are boring, and I'm not too excited about playing through the game.
What's really disappointing is that on some songs you're not even playing the guitar parts! I played Superstition and realized that I was paying notes for the organ and horn section. The same thing happens on Du Hast.
I liked having some of the classics in there, but overall, I'm just not too impressed.

GH5 really blew it with the song selection. Out of the 83 songs there is about 15 good ones. I listen to a lot of diverse music and the ones they chose are just untalented bands. The only reason I bought this one is because they were throwing in the GH Van halen if purchased before oct 1st. Trust me, wait for this one to be in the clearance bin or thrown in for free with the release of band hero or GH6. The graphics are great and the online store has good new additions to it.
