ANTIQUE ROAD SHOW HERE WE COME!
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I've been without Local Access TV for years due to a 2017 Vizio I bought that didn't come with a tuner. Luckily, i stumbled upon this unique device that allows me to watch local access on any device connected to my internet. I have an unhealthy obsession with Antique Road Show and a few other extremely odd PBS shows, and now I can RECORD them and gleefully watch every antique that touches a curators hands. Seriously, the HDHomerun device works elegantly and appears to be made of seriously good components vs. a cheap external tuner. The device boots up right away when you install the homerun app on your devices. You can't go wrong with this thing.

Posted .We're very proud of the way our devices are built like little tanks, designed to last for years and years and years! And good to hear you're getting your Antique Road Show fix. Great show. Perfect for vegging out on.

This is an excellent OTA TV Recording Device
||Posted . Owned for 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The SiliconDust HDHomeRun Scribe DUO 1 TB DVR is a great OTA DVR for completing a cord cutter's arsenal to capture live TV episodes for watching at a later time, while not having to pay for cable. It comes with a years service for the HDHomeRun guide and that is $35 annually to provide the guide service. This allows for recording two shows at once and playback to many different devices. A great purchase and glad I added it to my cord cutters kit. Very nice to have the builtin 1 TB DVR on the HD HomeRun device itself.

Posted .Great review! Just one clarification. The $35 annually is waived for a year if you buy a SCRIBE like this one or a HDHomeRun SERVIO. We'll then keep waiving every year that you buy another device to expand your library of content. Depending on how much you record, you may NEVER need to pay an kind of fee!

Software needs lots of work
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I liked that it did not compress the video before sending over Ethernet compared to the Fire recast. However the software that interfaces to the HDHomeRun is horrible. There is no way to view a schedule of upcoming shows on multiple channels. You have to look at one channel at a time and then scroll through that channel. Also is says it works on Roku but you cannot schedule recordings over Roku or Windows 7. You can view recorded shows but not schedule. This did not work for me so I took it back and went with the Fire Recast even though it did not have as high of video quality as the HDHomeRun. The user interface was just too unusable.
No, I would not recommend this to a friendBrand response from HDHomeRun Sales & Support
Posted .Just to be clear, the Fire TV Recast is limited entirely to Fire TV devices. That means you won't be able to even play back content or watch anything live on Windows 7 or Roku. With regards to see upcoming shows on multiple channels, the HDHomeRun has what is called the "Discover" page, which lists all the upcoming shows every half hour across all channels. Many people prefer this view, because they care more about the best shows than the best channels on at any given time.

Great but overpriced
||Posted . Owned for 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Works fantastic most of the time but still very buggy with Plex love tv/dvr most times and for what it is probably shouldn’t be more than $100
I would recommend this to a friendBrand response from HDHomeRun Sales & Support
Posted .The HDHomeRun SCRIBE DUO is made of high quality materials, including a small form factor 1TB drive rated for video recording 24hrs a day, 7 days a week. We've purposefully designed the system this way to ensure that your recordings stay recorded, giving people the peace of mind that they're never going to get from a standard external drive that's only rated for use 8 hours a day, 5 days a week.

OK unit for phones, tablets & computers not TV
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. They did not have unit at my local Best Buy. I drove 30 minutes to do the curbside pick up due to Covid-19. I did not really get it functional and working properly for about two weeks. The unit does have a 1 TB hard drive but only worked with the HD homerun app on my computer & iPad & iPhone. My main purpose was to watch programs on my Apple TV which only works with the Channels App which is a challenging set up operation and Does not allow the one terabyte storage of the HD homerun unit to be utilized you need a NAS R Dr. to hook up to your router or you need to use a computer with a lot of storage or connected to an external hard drive and your computer mistake on all the time. Which is not what I was looking for. I did get it to finally work the way I want it to you after phone calls to HD homerun. Company and a lot of online research on the Channels app on my Apple TV. It is impressive in the end for what it was purchased to do.

Great little DVR
||Posted . Owned for 11 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. My second HDHomeRun device This allows me to record from my cable tv line. I can receive non scrambled channels, basically about 30 or so. I can record major networks off of cable and skip commercials and watch it on PC, phone or iPad thru the HDHR app. Came with a free one year sub to the channel guide for timed recording. Will purchase a years sub when the first free year is over. Highly recommended

Great product
||Posted . Owned for 3 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The setup was very easy. The picture quality is excellent (I do have a mesh network so I don't have any bandwidth issues). The only thing is that it doesn't work well with an antenna with an amplifier. Once I switched it to a regular indoor antenna, it worked great. The interface for recordings is not superb but with a bit of getting used to, it is ok.

DVR does not wrok with Roku
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Scanning for channels is fast and easy. Only issue was the DVR setup does not work with HDHomeRun app in Roku. It works with FireTV though. Sometimes we noticed that the video and audio was not in sync when playing back the recorded content. But you close the app and restart it again, the the sync is fine.
No, I would not recommend this to a friendBrand response from HDHomeRun Sales & Support
Posted .This is mostly correct. You cannot set recordings with a Roku. For that you can use the app on your phone or any other device. For playback of recordings, Roku should work great. Sorry to hear about your audio sync issue. Feel free to contact support@silicondust.com. They may be able to help figure out what's causing that issue.
Q: QuestionWhat does the "subscription" services cover and why are they necessary in order to use this recorder?
Asked by Annie.
- A:Answer The subscription service is required for the full 2 weeks of guide data and for recording. It's primary purpose is to pay the guide data provider. When purchasing a SCRIBE Duo, you will not need to worry about paying any kind of subscription for a full year, and if you buy any more hardware, like another SCRIBE or a SERVIO in that time, that will add another 12 months of free service.

Q: QuestionDoes live viewing pass through at 720 or 1080? Does it record at 720 or 1080? After any free offers is there a required fee for anything? Is app compatible with Apple TV and Firestick 4K?
Asked by Interested.
- A:Answer Live and recorded streams are completely untouched, passing through at broadcast quality 720p and 1080i. After the free year of DVR service, DVR service is $35/year, however you can add another free 12 months any time you add another new SCRIBE or SERVIO to your network. The HDHomeRun app is compatible with the FireTV Stick. It is not compatible with Apple TV, but is compatible with iOS and can be mirrored to Apple TVs from there.

Q: QuestionWhat file format is a TV program recorded in? Can I copy a file to a CD/DVD and play it on my laptop when I travel? Can I add a hard drive for additional space, if needed?
Asked by Batman.
- A:Answer Files are stored as mpg file that can indeed by copied and read by pretty much any player out there. While you cannot plug a hard drive into the SCRIBE Duo, you can always get a SERVIO which will add to the total storage of your network. You can set up your own storage on a computer if you like.

Q: QuestionDoes the Scribe record any streaming content? I am looking for a DVR device that will record both streaming material and OTA shows.
Asked by DHarp.
- A:Answer The SCRIBE only records content that goes through an HDHomeRun tuner. This primarily means Over the Air content, but can also mean cable content for HDHomeRun Primes, and could mean streaming content, but only if that content were provided by HDHomeRun. It cannot record, for example, from PS Vue or YouTube.

Q: QuestionDoes television playback support both 720p and 1080i. Does unit support fast forward and rewind of recorded content? Can you view the content you are fast forwarding?
Asked by Boomboombrown.
- A:Answer Yes, playback is always untouched 720p and 1080i. The HDHomeRun app does skip forwarding and rewinding, where you skip forward 30 seconds at a time.

Q: QuestionHow to connect TV directly to this unit? I see coax but that's probably to connect the antenna.
Asked by Vadhiyar.
- A:Answer Correct. The coax is for the antenna. This device does not connect directly to the TV. Instead, you connect it to your router, and then all the smart devices in your home can access Live TV and recordings through the HDHomeRun app. For a full list of supported devices, see: https://www.silicondust.com/live-tv/#devices

Q: QuestionI own a 2 tuner unit. If I have both the one I own and the SiliconDust HDHomeRun - SCRIBE DUO 1TB DVR - Black, can I record from both units onto the Scribe itself, with out adding another hard drive? Thanks R
Asked by Recording.
- A:Answer Yes! The SCRIBE can record up to 4 streams at once, so the two streams from your unit plus the two streams from the DUO will work perfectly. Plus, while it is recording these streams, it can also play back 4 streams at the same time!

Q: QuestionCan you pair a Duo and Quatro for 6 streams and also use the combined recording capacity?
Asked by AJC.
- A:Answer Yes, you definitely can. All HDHomeRun devices are designed to "stack." This means that if you combine a SCRIBE DUO and a SCRIBE QUATRO, you'll get 6 streams and 2TB of storage.
