According to the SyFy Channel press release, "Helix is an intense thriller about a team of scientists from the Centers for Disease Control who travel to a high-tech research facility in the Arctic, Arctic Biosystems, to investigate a possible disease outbreak, only to find themselves pulled into a terrifying life-and-death struggle that may hold the key to mankind’s salvation or total annihilation. However, the lethal threat is just the tip of the iceberg, and as the virus evolves, the chilling truth begins to unravel." Made more terrifying as it could come true! ( Was SARs man-made?) However, the lethal threat is just the tip of the iceberg, and as the virus evolves, the chilling truth begins to unravel. Billy Campbell (Killing Lincoln, The Killing) stars as Dr. Alan Farragut, leader of the Centers for Disease Control outbreak field team called upon to investigate and control a potential outbreak. Hiroyuki Sanada (The Wolverine, 47 Ronin) also stars as Dr. Hiroshi Hatake, director of Arctic BioSystems and its mysterious viral research program. Helix also stars Kyra Zagorsky (Supernatural) as Dr. Julia Walker; Mark Ghanimé (Emily Owens, M.D.) as Major Sergio Balleseros; Jordan Hayes (House at the End of the Street) as Dr. Sarah Jordan; Meegwun Fairbrother as Daniel Aerov; Catherine Lemieux (White House Down) as Dr. Doreen Boyle, and Neil Napier (Riddick) as Dr. Peter Farragut. Ronald D. Moore (Battlestar Galactica, Outlander), Steven Maeda (Lost, The X-Files) who is also showrunner, and Lynda Obst (Contact, Sleepless in Seattle) are Executive Producers. The 13-episode series is produced by Tall Ship Productions, Kaji Productions and Lynda Obst Productions in association with Sony Pictures Television. Prolific director and producer Jeffrey Reiner (Friday Night Lights) directed the premiere episode, which was written by creator and co-executive producer, Cameron Porsandeh. Lotsa Suspense similar to LOST. Hinting at a conspiracy, intrigue, all refer to surreptitious or unknown covert schemes to accomplish some end,

SyFy is known mostly nowadays for having movies so terrible they're fun, i.e. Sharknado. Which is unfortunate cause it sometimes overshadows the good work they do. I'm not saying all their shows are good. However, this one really is. Helix is a great mix of Outbreak, John Carpenter's: The Thing, 28 Days Later, and Resident Evil. Lots of great twists and turns as the season progresses. Every couple of episodes you change your mind on who you like or what side you think they're on. I watched this series when it aired. But I just knew my wife would like it. When we sat down the weekend we bought it we couldn't shut it off! At least until I had to get up to change the discs. Then I had to convince her that we REALLY needed to get out of bed and get some stuff done. It's that good, you won't want to turn it off. And it's one of those series that when it's over you'll want to watch it all again and see what you missed the first time around. Highly recommend and can't wait for season 2!!!

This movie reminded me of the Andromeda Strain, and the Thing. The budget is really big. Some people didn't like the long drawn subplot, but I am fine with it. It has a very odd theme music and from time to time, Dionne Warwick's songs can be heard in the show. (This brought back a lot of memories!) Without giving the plot away, three scientists/physicians from the Center of Disease Control go to a well funded private science research station somewhere near the North Pole after something went wrong and a few people died. I watched it on Netflix originally, and wanted to get myself a copy of the DVDs for my own collection. I tried to stretch it out by watching one episode per day! If you like sci-fi mixed with medicine thrown in with a bunch of good-looking actors, this could be for you. Can't wait until the 2nd season.

    Incomprehensible Behaviour

I found the behaviour of the lead characters to be incomprehensible and inconsistent, if not downright ludicrous in responding to the circumstances they were presented with... very, very distracting and irritating. Overall, though, the production values seemed high, with the gore definitely stretching the bounds of television (it's actually good to see TV move out from under the lowest common denominator).

I can't not say enough great things about this show. The plot, acting, episode cliffhangers, wow....I highly recommend this show. There is some drama/mystery, thriller, sci-fi, and just a slight bit of horror mixed in. It will keep you on the edge of your seat & anxious for season 2!

Full of unexpected plot twists and many "what just happened" moments, it will be great to watch from start to finish. Best Buy had the BEST DEAL as always on this so I made sure to grab it when I could.

I highly enjoyed that the show is written with a great deal of science as the focus. I enjoyed the entire show a lot more because of the underlying current of exploration. I'm not sure where they'll take it for season 2, but as long as it stays connected to the lab experiments.. I'M IN !!!

If there's one show that became a surprise hit it's Helix. This show feels more like one long movie, and the budget alone makes it look beautiful on Blu-ray. The cast is great and this is definitely worth it on blu.
