A: Most definitely you don't want the humidity back into your household air. This is the reason that there is a clothes dryer style exhaust through a window.
A: I have seen portable A/C's set up the way you are talking about in resort guest rooms. The hose was connected to something that resembled a dryer duct/vent that went through the wall to the outside. The hose on this model is for air only, the water is contained in the unit. I have used mine for over a month and haven't had to manually empty it yet.
