An AWESOME Laptop. I made a great decision.
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I replaced my pitiful ASUS with a new HP ENVY two months ago and I feel like I made an excellent decision. I had been a huge fan of HP's since the 1990's but when I got ready to purchase my previous ASUS laptop, I made mistake of listening to sales rep instead of my previous experience. Sales rep convinced that DELL and ASUS made much better laptops than HP and, thus, I purchased a DELL. It lasted 4 months and died. BestBuy replaced it with an ASUS and it ended up being worse than DELL. I am "gentle" with my computers/laptops and found myself amazed that keys on my ASUS would "fly off" when I was typing fast, the screen would pop loose when closing the lip on the laptop, screen developed blurred areas, touch screen quit working, hard drive speed slowed, hard drive failed, etc. After two years, I had enough and began my search for a new laptop. I researched every resource I could find. Most resources gave HP laptops very good reviews but gave ASUS and DELL better reviews. When I found most of these reviews were based on laboratory testing and not end user reviews, I then turned to the BestBuy review website and purchaser of the HP ENVY extremely happy with their HP ENVY laptops and a very high percentage stated they would buy their HP ENVY again and recommend to a friend. After reading these BestBuy reviews, I went to my local Columbia SC Spring Valley BestBuy to compare the different brands. I visited the Columbia, SC Spring Valley Store and got EXCELLENT service by the computer rep and even the store manager stepped in to assist me with excellent service. I found the HP laptops stood out when I compared them to the DELL, ASUS, SAMSUNG and LEVENO brands. Of course, I then had to pick a model. For the money, the ENVY model stood to be the best. Yes, it would have been great to have a solid state hard drive but I could add one if I found I needed one. However, when I got home the standard hard drive was excellent as was the key board, the display, sound quality, the speed, etc. I WOULD DEFINITELY PURCHASE AGAIN and RECOMMEND and in Columbia SC I recommend the Spring Valley Store. PROS: Speed, display, sound, key board response, case, hard drive size, battery life CONS: NO internal DVD drive, lack of USB ports (especially when one has to be used for external DVD drive)

Excellent choice. I have no regrets in this
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I purchased 3 laptops over the last year, different sizes, different weights, different processors but was never contented. I am involved in animal disease risk mapping and use databases and spreadsheets as source of data (real time) and mapping software at the same time. This laptop is excellent for that. Not adding the 360 feature as a plus. Downside - keyboard back-light should have a low option in addition to on/off.

Awesome laptop
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Bought this laptop after lots of research. I wanted something fast and functional, as I take online classes, and play around with video editing in my free time. We had some hiccups in the beginning with tablet mode and lagging internet, but did some digging and quickly resolved both problems. It's a beautiful laptop, and feels great to use. Highly recommend.

Screen issues white flares
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I got this laptop and when I change the windows background color to solid black and go into a dark room then I realized white flares in the top edges of my screen . I returned it and got another one and I got same problem again. This only occurs when u are watching dark black desktop and u will never recognize it with any other color. I called HP and they are working on it .. they checked all hardware drivers and they could not resolve it .. I checked with a friend of mine who has same machine and he was shocked from the white flares even though he was using it for months. I attached a photo of what I am having and encourage everyone to test this .. HP rep said this should not happen but I think we are dealing screen defect on this model and hard to see. I discovered it while watching a movie aspect ratio 16x9 with black bars in a dark room.. waiting for HP response as they escalated my discovery !!!

Screen popped open at the hinge
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I don't use this laptop everyday. Most times I'd use this laptop once a week. To my horror today I opened it and the display by left hinge popped right open with it as well. A screw fell right out and now I'm left in a predicament where I seemingly have to squeeze the display where the hinge is in order for it not to pry open when I use the laptop. Immensely disappointed because I don't use it enough for it to start falling apart 10 months after purchase.

Q: QuestionCan we replace 1TB hard drive with ssd ??? I mean, is hdd replaceable with ssd??? Or is there extra slot for ssd addition???
Asked by Murtaza.
- A:Answer Yes you can replace the hard drive. In order to access and replace the 1TB drive you will need a torx T5 I believe, and phillips head screwdriver. You have to do the following 1: Remove all Torx T5 screws from the bottom panel, the torx screws are all of the visible screws on the bottom. 2: There are 2 hidden screws under the rear feet on the bottom, peel up the rear feet (only half of the foot) on the bottom of the laptop (you can just peel half the foot off to access the PHILLIPS head screw), make sure the two screws that are located under the padded feet are backed out all the way. NOTE: THE SCREWS UNDER/INSIDE THE REAR FEET WILL NOT COME ALL THE WAY OUT, THEY JUST BACK OUT FAR ENOUGH TO RELEASE THE BOTTOM PANEL. 3: DO NOT REMOVE THE PADDED FRONT FEET ON THE BOTTOM OF THE LAPTOP, THERE ARE NO SCREWS UNDER THERE. 4: After all screws are released/removed, start with the laptop in your lap upside down where the bottom cover is facing up, and begin pulling the bottom of the laptop off from the back, work your way toward the front. I start around the hinges on each side, once each side pops off around the hinge, you can typically work your way forward. Use a credit card or guitar pick to pop the tabs if you are not wanting to just use your fingers/nails. You will hear the plastic tabs snapping/releasing, this is normal but somewhat alarming if you haven't done it before. Attached is what it looks like when off.

Q: QuestionDoes this comes with a PCIe slot for additional SSD installation? TIA.
Asked by hchen42.
- A:Answer Hey CrazyTaz, thanks. I just posted my results on the HP forum. This laptop comes with a m.2 2280 pci-e slot that you can install ssd. I just install the SSD and the laptop recognizes it. I am going to install OS on it. I wish people who doesn't know the answer don't answer. Answering no devalues this laptop. This extra slot, to me is gold, as I can install 2 HDs on it.

Q: QuestionHi. "Overall ", what are the cons of this laptop? And, what was the gold standard device you compare this laptop to for the cons ?
Asked by Nick.
- A:Answer For a laptop with this price tag, only having 128M of dedicated graphics is a real letdown. Other minor annoyances are only 2 USB ports, no Ethernet port, and lack of a DVD drive, though most thinner laptop these days skip on the disk drive. I would still say if you aren't going to use it for gaming of any kind other than MS Store apps it is a great buy overall. In comparison I did end up returning this and got the HP Pavilion 15 that is essentially the same thing without the tablet mode, but with 2gig of dedicated memory for graphic processing for virtually the same price.
