Fantastic Appliance
||Posted .Owned for 1 month when reviewed. We absolutely love this appliance! It doubles as BOTH a full-size stand-alone refrigerator AND freezer in one stand-alone appliance.. What a great idea! And it’s big. You can fit as much (if not more) refrigerated food or frozen food in this appliance as your regular kitchen appliance. You have the option to go back and forth between using it as a refrigerator OR as a freezer. Just change the digital controls on the outside of the door! The digital control also has a feature to lock/unlock the settings that only you control. We keep this one in the basement as backup to store overflow or extra food that won’t fit in our regular built-in KitchenAid appliance in our kitchen. It’s a lifesaver, and even an energy saver. Ref

Beef and Beer
||Posted .Owned for 1 month when reviewed.I've got 2 of them, love the conversion. These are narrow enough to fit 2 where 1 conventional chest freezer was. We keep lots of beef but can use for beer after 1 is empty. :)

Nice!
||Posted .So far, so good. Large enough to store a quarter beef and half hog and still have more room leftover. Quiet operation and doesn’t take up a lot of room. Very nice looking as well.

Q: Questionit has no freezer correct
Asked by BS.
- A:Answer It IS a freezer. That’s the beauty of this unit. It can be a refrigerator or freezer; but not both at once. You get to choose. Right now I’m using mine as a fridge because I needed the room for the holidays. During hunting season I use it as a freezer.

Q: QuestionDo the glass shelves and plastic bins cause an issue with cold air circulation in Freezer mode? I know most freezers have wire shelves and bins to promote air circulation and avoid hot spots.
Asked by SamBoca.
- A:Answer I keep mine in my garage on freezer mode and it does a fantastic job. I have not noticed any issues at all with cold air circulation.

Q: QuestionIs this garage ready?
Asked by Anonymous.
- A:Answer Hi. I truly appreciate the time you took to share this inquiry with us. While the unit could work in a garage, tit is designed and manufactured to be used indoors. Thus, we cannot ensure its correct functionality while on such location. Cesar G. - Insignia Support

Q: QuestionIs it possible to setup this freezer to show the current interior temperature of the freezer?
Asked by LikesItCold.
- A:Answer This is really an important question that deserves an accurate answer: On the outside door is a digital display where you enter the desired temperature. Desired temperature is not the same as the temperature of the inside unit. This is because the unit cycles on/off, which is normal, but it's important understand the desired temperature is not necessarily the temperature inside the unit. When the unit is in the refrigerator mode (not freezer mode), the absolute minimum you are permitted to set the refrigerator is 35 F degrees. The digital display (where you enter the temperature) does not permit you to enter 33F as you would hope, it only permits you to scroll down to 35F and no further. This is important to know, because most people prefer their refrigerators to run on the cooler side, rather than the warmer side. I've got my fridge set at 35F (the coolest setting allowed on the digital display) and this translates into actual temperatures inside the refrigerator between 40F and 45F inside the refrigerator, using three different refrigerator temperature readers from three different reputable companies. I wish the unit could be set to 33F, because that would just about get the unit into the safety zone of 38 to 42F. I think 45F is a bit too high for a refrigerator that costs $600. Also note, the refrigerator door was not opened for 48 hours and it still reads out temperatures between 40 and 45. (Today, it actually read 46F). I had to toss out our Easter ham, because it just doesn't keep meat in food safe zone. Other than that, the unit is amazing. It's excellent as a freezer and functions much better as a freezer, with temperatures around -11F which is amazingly good. If you are purchasing this as a freezer, I would highly recommend it is one of the best freezers out there. If you are purchasing this for fruit/vegetables or sodas, this is also an excellent choice. I just would not recommend it for meat nor cottage cheese, because those items need to be kept in a food safe temperature zone, which these refrigerators are not able to achieve. It's too bad the refrigerator mode doesn't work as needed. I own two units.

Q: QuestionCan this unit be used in the garage?
Asked by Jinnie.
- A:Answer Yes, that is where we keep ours. All you need is power.

Q: QuestionHow long does it take to reach temperature upon initial cool down and is it normal for the sides to feel VERY warm during this period?
Asked by Charlie.
- A:Answer During the initial setup, it took about 4 to 6 hours to get it cold enough to start putting our freezer goods in there. I would say 10 to 12 hours to reach actual temp used as a freezer. The continuous running to get it to temp did cause the unit to feel warm to the touch on the exterior. Keep in mind, our unit is placed in an enclosed garage. It is not inside where the ac has the temp cooler.
