Customers are delighted by the picture quality and streaming capabilities of this product, with many praising the ease of use and fast connection speeds. However, some users have expressed concerns regarding the remote control's design and functionality, noting its unusual shape and occasional noise. A few also mentioned that the device itself can be noisy during operation. Overall, the positive feedback on picture quality and streaming outweighs the negative comments about the remote and noise.

Picked up my refurb NS-BRDVD3 this week from the store. Front of the unit was clean, but large scratches along the top. Hooked it up using component cables (not included). Initially the remote didn't work and this thing is a doorstop without it. Was about to return it, but just before boxing it up, I got it to work. I figured out that one of the contact springs in the remote wasn't getting a good contact with the AAA battery. Once I got the remote working, I found that it was freezing up in a few repeatable spots while playing the Independence Day DVD. Again, was about to box it up, but I tried the latest firmware update and that fixed it. The Planet Earth Blu-Ray plays through fine.
Pros: BR picture quality seems very good. Normal DVDs look great too. Netflix, CinemaNow and Pandora are on the latest firmware and can be disabled, starts up reasonably quickly, nice looking full size component chassis (unlike the NS-BRDVD4 which is much smaller) with informative alphanumeric flourescent display, USB thumbdrive reader will also play music. Price, Price, Price.
Cons: remote angle can be challenging, but not as bad as some reviews make it out to be, it is pretty noisy, on screen fonts are microscopic, definitely buggy without the latest firmware, no support for this unit on universal remotes, can get pretty warm during playback, forgets where it was on a disc if you turn the unit off. No physical enter key on the front panel means this thing is a brick without the remote control.

First of all I have only had it for about a month so reliability is still questionable. and i only have a 90 day warranty so we will see
Pros, Pandora and netflix are great, picture is good, menu is simple. Installation was simple,
cons. Remote has to pointed EXACTLY in the right spot, isn't this a problem that is easy to fix? My dish remote works almost anywhere in the room? As does my 10 yo JVC reciever remote. I don't get why they even make remotes like this anymore? I'm reminded what a pain it is every time i use it, pretty bad PR for the insignia brand if you ask me.
the remote is large and shaped strangely, layout is a bit odd as well, no return to main screen button, so to from dvd to pandora is difficult. also, when the disc spins it makes a loud scraping spinning noise internally. It works, but makes noise.
Also, I had to uypdate the firmware before the internet functionality would work.
But truly great for the 56.00 price tag, shipped to my door.

This player was for sale as "refurbished" on best buy's online store so I wasn’t worried about dings and scratches, and I figured it had been tested completely. When I opened it there was no visible damage. It looked great and had all the items, remote, cables, manual etc. The problem was multiple electronic failures that were either not reported initially, or were missed because this unit was only tested for a few moments of playability when "refurbished"
1) FIRST do not try and set up this type of Insignia BDP on a standard TV, you will never be able to read the menus, even with a microscope, which could be why it was originally returned… Luckily I have a digital TV in another room and took it in there later and I could actually read the menu items.
2) This player would play for about 15 to 20 min of a DVD and revert to the player set up menu. This happened on several different DVDs.
3) When connected to Netflix, it would play 5 seconds to about 20 minutes of downloaded content until is also glitched and went back to the player set up menu.
4) Finally got a brand new blue ray disc and tried it, and unfortunately same story. It would play between 30 and 45 minutes of the disc and it would glitch and return to the player set up menu.
Return policy at Best Buy is awesome; I took it to my local store and returned it for in-store credit. Found the next model up Insignia with WiFi (also an open box one) and thus far, it is perfect. Perfect picture, perfect sound, the WiFi is VERY easy to configure and auto-updating of the Java is seamless.

It has been close to a month since we got this refurbished internet conectable blu ray player and so far so good. We enjoy every moment that we can seeing our blu ray movies we rent from Netflix or streaming Netflix movies also, our dvds, music cds and even our pictures. It is fast connections all the time, and it doesn't slow down at all when we are watching streaming content. Pandora is also enjoyable and we highly recommonded this item. Fast shipping and great packaging kept it from getting damaged at all and we got everything that it described online. I will definitely buy more things from Best Buy Outlet.

Poor quality product all around, failed to play Blue Ray disks all the way through, did not recognize my in-house network. Tried to get the BR networked but did not "see" any networks so I gave up after a while. After the third BR disk failure I removed the common denominator and replaced the Blue Ray player with a higher quality item and have since not had a problem. On a positive note the staff at our Best Buy store were very helpful with the return and also selecting a better product.
In short stay clear from this product and upgrade to a higher quality BR player

I was looking for a upconvert DVD player when I found this Bluray player in the same price range. What would you do? Pay the same for less?
It'sa very basic player, but plays every format I've thrown at it. Refurbished products I have bought in the past, including this one, have past the test of a new product and resulted in a good value for the money. This Bluray player was bought for a second TV, so I'm happy with my purchase.
A:AnswerThe difference between the model you purchased and the refurbished unit is that yours was new in the box. You can find out more about refurbished products on BestBuy.com by visiting http://www.bestbuy.com/site/null/null/pcmcat224100050004.c?id=pcmcat224100050004&searchresults=1&searchterm=refurbished.
A:AnswerYou may have success using an ethernet bridge, but the cost might be prohibitive. Alternatively, we offer model NS-WBRDVD2 which has built-in wireless capability.
