After purchasing a brand new desktop PC, apparently it's gotten to that time where MOST computers don't accept VGA connections any longer. they are supposedly out of date. So i searched for a solution. after doing ALOT of research, and found out that they're many wires to claim to do what i needed, but alot don't work and deliver what your looking for...... THIS adapter for DOES work spot on, i kinda took a gamble on this based on the reviews and the questions and answers here and just said " why not? let's give it a try " i was glad i went ahead with this adapter and it did the trick. A quick plug up the VGA connection from my older flat screen monitior and quickly connected to 2016 new HP desktop and it worked immediately. i do feel the price is up there especially for just an adapter wire, it should be priced at $15 to 20 bucks, but whatever as long as it works that all i care. $39.99 vs a NEW monitor, that gives me the answer right there.

About a year ago, I bought a different HDMI > VGA adapter to connect my laptop to an older presentation projector, but made the mistake of getting one without a separate audio-out jack. So, the video that was the central point of my presentation played on the big screen...but without sound. Chalk it up to user-error...I didn't realize that the HDMI adapter I bought would render the audio/headphone jack on my laptop useless. Live and learn, I guess. I bought this adapter because I needed a way to connect a DVD player to a projector for a backyard "theater." Before I did, I made sure to find one that separated the audio from the HDMI output, allowing me to plug the audio into an amplifier so everyone could hear the action. If you're looking for an easy way to connect a newer video component to an older playback display, this is a great option. The only reason I gave it a 4-star review is the cost. It seems a little pricey for what it does. In the end, though I'm glad I have it.

Product did not work at all. Followed the limited instructions provided in the package with no luck. Returned to store thinking it might be defective, but same result with 2nd product, so also returned. On the same note as this, do not waste your time calling j5 support. You can spend over an hour on the phone waiting for somebody only to have some voicemail come and tell you to leave a message. You leave a message, nobody returns your call. You govtovthe website and use the online chat, they don't offer support for that item and tell you to submit online. Did that, finally received an email saying "just return product to store". Strange thing was, actually got an email about a month later asking if I was satisfied with their support? Had no choice but to say " no" as they did nothing (not to mention despite advertising 24/7 support, never could reach anybody in a timely manner). Absolutely horrible customer service and product support on the part of j5.

This item stopped working after two days. Best Buy refused to take it back as it was beyond their 15 day return policy. I have spent two weeks answering ridiculous questions via email from j5create's customer service department which were not even remotely connected to a plug and play adapter. After I told them I was using the adaper with a brand new Inspiron 2350 they proceeded to ask me how much RAM it had and what chipset it had. Are you kidding me? They seem determined to deny any responsibility for a defective device. This is the only j5create item I have ever bought. I don't know if their products in general are good or bad, but this one is defective. Based on my experience with their customer support staff, I will not buy their products again. And Best Buy's refusal to take the defective product back unless, they said, I was an Elite member was just insulting.

Wanted to connect a new laptop with HDMI output to the projectors at work which only have the VGA cable (they are on the ceiling and all you get is the a wire coming out of the conference room tables so can't really reach the projectors), honestly guy at the store was not sure it would work, but I tried and worked perfectly - NOTE: Only using it for displaying Excel and PowerPoint stuff, no sound, etc. so for work is perfect, not sure if other applications or systems would work the same. Item was on sale so I paid probably 60% of the price so I wish I would have bought two. I carry this on my laptop case everywhere I go so when visiting Customers or Suppliers I can now connect my new laptop to their projectors. I recommend put it in a ziploc or similar enclosure to protect it and make sure you label it in case you forget it somewhere!

Did not work for what I needed it to do

I asked associate for a VGA to HDMI converter in store and he pointed me to this product. I said how the language on the box makes it sound like this takes HDMI and sends it to VGA but he said it works both ways. Well he was wrong. I was looking to take a VGA output from a digital signage box into an HDMI input on a TV. It didn't work at all. Then just to test the product I tried it in the other direction, from the HDMI out on my laptop to a VGA input on a computer monitor. That worked. So the product worked but it is NOT reversible like the best buy associate said. Odd because the HDMI port is male and the VGA is female. I was looking to plug this in the TV and then you'd have a VGA port hanging off the back of the TV. No that does not work.

I bought this to connect my Windows laptop to an older monitor. I had to tweak some computer settings in order for monitor to stay on as it was giving me an error regarding resolution size and kept going into power save mode. Works OK now. I know that my issue is not related to adapter but to my monitor. The screws on my VGA cable were not long enough to connect with the holes on the adapter part. I used tape to hold the two together (as it doesn't make sense to go buy another cable). I like the fact that this adapter has the holes for the screws as some do not. I would recommend this product to people interested in purchasing it.

As teachers we are often faced with connecting our own technology with antiquated district equipment. In this case connecting a Chromecast to a VGA projector to allow casing from an Android tablet. This dongle does the trick (well, I tested with an ancient monitor). I'm still not certain if the not included power supply will be required for the final solution due to lack of clear instructions. I also have been told by the end user that audio is not required so that aspect was not tested.
