Just bought this for my 79 yr old mother who is mobility impaired, on oxygen, and has a heart condition. Although she does have a cell phone, I don't feel that's enough. She often misplaces her cell phone, the battery is dead, or in a state of confusion might not be able to figure out how to take the phone off lock screen, select "phone" icon, select "keypad," etc, just too many steps to remember when you're scared, alone, having trouble breathing, hurting, etc. I clipped this 2oz device around a pretty lanyard and she wears it around her neck. All she has to do is press the button for any kind of help she may need. I am loving the GreatCall Link App for my iPad and iPhone. I get push notifications that tells me when my mom is "out and about" and will give me a GPS location within in a couple blocks. She still drives so when she leaves my house later in the evening I always worry if she gets home safely. First night with her new device and I get an alert telling me she is now at home. Many times after she leaves she forgets to call to tell me she got home safely, or forgets her cell phone in the car, or forgets to turn the ringer on her home phone. This alert device, with its GPS tracking capabilities and push notifications, is exactly what I was looking for. I would highly recommend this device for anyone who is living independently and has health or mental issues that need immediate attention. Personally, I could not stand the thought of my parent lying alone on the floor injured or ill and couldn't get the help they needed. This gives me a great peace of mind. About the monitoring service, the cost of the device is inexpensive. Who would expect a fully staffed monitoring service to be free? It is $20/mo for basic coverage, $25/mo for the expanded service of being able to talk directly with a doctor or registered nurse, and $35 to include fall detection. Sometimes seniors, with a lot of health problems, are just having a panic attack. Being able to talk to a medical professional that could calm them down and avoid a highly stress ambulance ride to the hospital and being poked and prodded for endless tests is worth it. Definitely worth every dime I am spending on this.
