Use it mainly for converting VHS's to DVD------we have 100's of VHS that have been sitting for years-----we have converted about a dozen already.
Needed a little help with set up but called manufacture and within three or four minutes I had the thing set up. Will also use it for recording since we miss things on TV that are on after 10pm.

I purchased this machine to make copies of my vhs tapes to dvd. I have another machine that I purchased years ago (diferent brand), but it only worked with certain cds/dvd's. I had purchased dvd's several time and never could find any that worked in the old unit. This unit is great ~ it took every one of those dvds that I had purchased without any issues. I was able to record and play without difficulty! I had struggled for so long with that other one, that this one was a breeze!! The only thing is, be sure and read the instructions on how to finalize a dvd or else you can erase all that you just recorded (done it:) I haven't tried to record anything on vhs with it... LOVE IT!

I just recieved this product yesterday and jumped right in to having fun with my toy! The instructions are hard to get used to,but through trial and error everything works real well. the picture quality for both vcr and dvd are excellent, better than my sony dvd player and my cheap sansui vcr. the recording options for timer recording can be a pain but you did figure them out by the second try. the dubbing feature works real well both ways, yet again excellent picture, even no problem recording on demand shows from my cable box. overall a very satisfied consumer, and the shipping was quick also, got to love UPS!

I bought this while trying to buy another Insignia (Best Buy house brand) DVD/VCR Recorder Combo. Before I bought it I checked the specs by looking at the JVC instruction manual online and it appeared to be identical to the Insignia I owned. However it differs in details such as the JVC does not allow choice of thumbnails on DVD-R discs.
I wish Best Buy still sold the Insignia one I bought a few years ago.

Book explained most of the features but I did have to hunt around the menus to find out how to finalize a disc. This product performs just as I expected for a very good price.

Setup for recorder with chords that came with unit , appeared simple but did not work. Showed several differant ways using differant chords. None of which came with the unit and cost an extra $25.00. Tried those, they did not work. After hours of beating my head against the wall I decided I had purchased a DVD Player, not a recorder. and learned a lesson. Buying refurbished products is not worth the risk.

I've always had good experience with JVC. This unit is easy to use, it's got a lot of features, and the picture from regular DVD's is fantastic.
