Q: Would this laptop be good for a college student?
A: This laptop should be fine for most college students. You can write papers (with word processing software), take notes (with note taking software), do presentations (with presentation software), work with spreadsheets (with spreadsheet software), receive and send email, and do internet research (with its built-in wi-fi networking). Software for the aforementioned purposes is available in the "Cloud," as well as commercially available, and often available free for download from internet websites. The CPU, while "entry level", is more than adequate for the above uses, and the 500 gigabyte hard disk drive provides significant storage capacity, plus, "Cloud" storage is available. This laptop has a built-in DVD/CD player, for loading programs from DVDs or CDs, although most software now is available for download to the laptop's hard disk drive from websites on the internet. And, BestBuy's price for this laptop is quite reasonable considering the laptop's capabilities. Hope this helps!
A: There is a CD/DVD-RW drive built in to this model.
Q: can I play xbox games on the windows 10
A: Yes, Windows 10 has that capability.
A: This model ships with a 500GB standard hard drive. There will be software loaded on this computer at the factory, like Windows 10 Operating System. There will be approximately 350GB of usable space for the user. A 350GB external hard drive will hold just over 700 full-length movies before it's full. Or a 350GB hard drive could fit more than 100,000 songs/photos (at 3000KB per song/photo).
Q: Would this one be good for YouTube and Netflix ?
A: It's a nice, clean laptop. I actually acquired it for a business purpose so it's great for internet and your basic office-type functions. I won't say it's the best thing for streaming--especially wireless--and you would be better off with a wired connection to the internet which is available on this computer. If you're trying basic HD films or Youtube regular, you should be fine. 4K streams on my home computer with a more massive video card stutter and I have to switch down to regular HD myself. It's more about the speed of your Internet service provider these days than the computer itself usually. You could pick up one of the $1000+ laptops with beefier video cards for gaming and/or video but I'm sure price point was a factor in your looking at this one [Lenovo is a Chinese company who acquired the personal computing line from IBM when IBM decided to stick with business computing focus. I own a Lenovo Desktop purchased from Best Buy I turned into a multimedia server which has been running without issue for about 5 years now. It's a respectable company.]
A: No, this model does not have a touchscreen.
Q: Are the fan vents to cool on the bottom or the side of the laptop?
A: On the bottom.
Q: does this overheat, since fan is on bottom?
A: My longest session so far has been 9 hours with the unit in a hard surface. There were no overheating issues as the feet raise it off if the surface enough to facilitate air flow. Enjoy
