      Great "Non-Gamer" Mechanical Keyboard

      Posted

This is an upgrade from the stock dome switch chiclet keyboard that came with my desktop PC. Mechanical keyboards are usually marketed as gaming keyboards and usually look the part. I consider myself a casual gamer and so I have no use for a keyboard with RGB backlighting or a large number of other features. This keyboard uses Logitech’s own Romer-G switches. I do not have any experience with the Cherry MX family of switches so I cannot compare the Romer-G switches to them. In my opinion, the Romer-Gs give the proper mechanical feel without being obnoxiously loud. They have just enough click and spring resonance to remind the user that this is indeed a mechanical keyboard. The Romer-G switches have a noticeable tactile bump so there is no need to bottom out the keys. The silver backplate of this keyboard looks great with my monitor and desktop tower which are both silver and/or have silver accents. The build quality is very solid. This keyboard is heavy and will not slide around on the desk. The look is classy enough to stand out but not so much that it looks like a typical gaming keyboard. It does have white backlighting which can be customized somewhat with the Logitech Gaming Software. Also, the USB passthrough is a nice touch for a keyboard in this price point provided an open USB port on your computer is available. Finally, I’ll probably never use the included replicable gaming keycaps but it is thoughtful of Logitech to include them. One downside, which others have commented, is that Num Lock and Scroll Lock do not have their own indicator lights on the keyboard. Caps Lock and the gaming mode G key have indicators. It’s only a minor gripe for me.

In summary, I'm a convert from ergonomic quiet keyboards to this sweet aestheticly beautiful fast keyboard. If coming from a non mechanical keyboard, your gaming WILL IMPROVE period. I'm an avid gamer and a business professional, I've been using a Ergonomic chiclet quiet keyboard for the last couple of years, I love it, but was told mechanical keyboards are king for gaming ... as a business professional I've held off on getting a gaming keyboard in the past as I didn't want something loud and over the top looking sitting on my desk and I'm very used to ergonomic keyboards, in comes this keyboard ... It's professional looking, backlit, not too loud and mechanical, just not ergonomic, well I can tell you although I do prefer an ergonomic keyboard for work, for gaming, this keyboard BLOWS away any past keyboards I've tried. It's fast, like more than 10 kpm faster on the 10 key pad then my old chiclet. I've also noticed a HUGE difference in key coordination and latency, with my old keyboards, being wireless, I never noticed I had an issues with latency with fast movement and using skillshots in games, however in just a simple mini game in smite, Apollo's Racer Rumble, I NEVER missed my drifts using the space, W, A and D keys in tandem, I thought it was bad code or network latency occasionally not initiating a drift, however I don't have that issue with this keyboard, probably since its wired or the fact I can press multiple more keys at the same time then my previous keyboard. Thanks Logitech, for another product I LOVE.

      Consistent quality needs work

Ordered via Website and picked up at store. The box was cut at the edge by inventory staff when unpacking, but since it's just the outside, I ignored it. After plugging it in, I noticed that the light for F12 was different than those of the rest of the keyboard. While 99+% of the keys had a blueish-tinted LED, the F12 key had a slightly darker straight white (the kind I get from my G610). Instead of spending the rest of the time being bothered by that, I brought it back for an exchange. The newer keyboard came in a box that was in even worse shape. One of the edges is almost completely cut, exposing the inner black box. Again, it's just the outside box, right? The keyboard itself is fine this time. Consistent lighting. BUT the left shift key makes a different sound when pressed than the rest of the keys. I can repeat this again. But the customer support guy and I will be sick of each other, and gas isn't free. I'll live with it. Maybe plucking it out and reinserting it will fix it. Regardless, I'm sure there are some perfectly crafted/manufactured keyboards out there for this model. I just haven't had the luck. And just because I am partial to the Silver model, I'm confined to BestBuy (as opposed to getting it online like I did for my G610, from that store you're thinking about).

Amazing keyboard that I feels as good if not better than my former Corsair K70. While it is missing the dedicated media keys from the K70 I don't find it that hard to press the Fn key to get the same functions. The top aluminum frame provides a nice sturdiness and a less plasticy feel than other keyboards at this price. The star of the board are the Romer G switches. In my own opinion they feel like a mix between cherry reds and browns with an almost ever slight feel of membrane which to say isn't bad. In fact the greatest things I love about the Romer G switches is that there is a slight bump with each key press unlike cherry reds so i have noticed that i make less typing errors. The actuation point of the Romer G's feels quicker than cherry reds so I am noticing that a lot of my actions are happening ever so slightly quicker. The only con i could say that this keyboard has is flex in the corners of the board. As well as the extendable feel flex a fair amount if you type pretty hard. Overall I feel that if you are new to mechanical keyboards to a vet this is a solid mech keyboard worth your money.

This is a great choice for anyone looking for a first mechanical keyboard that's interested more in the tactile feedback / typing experience than the rainbow light shows. I've literally never NOT loved anything I've bought from Logitech, and this is no exception; solid, decisive actuation, a really nice heft and overall feeling of quality manufacturing - and at a very reasonable price. The backlighting is beautifully clean and consistent, USB pass-through is a nice addition, and the risers are stable and give just the right amount of lift. My only caveat (and I know this is common with backlit keys) is the caps lock light being located on the top RH corner as opposed to on the key itself - but I'll probably have already adjusted to that by the time most of you read this, though :) TL;DR: Awesome entry-level keyboard with very respectable features, from a consistently awesome company, at a very affordable price.

I have been using a Microsoft Sidewinder keyboard for the last 3-4 years, and it was getting a little crusty. I bought this one when it was on sale and I found a good price match. I really like the way the keyboard looks. The silver just pops. In addition, I like the way that the keys feel. It's a bit clicky (it is mechanical) but not overly loud. On top of that, the form factor is great. It's really minimalistic. I also appreciate that it has a full 9 key on the side. I have a background in accounting and data analytics, so having the 9 key is absolutely vital to my peace of mind. If you forced me to come up with with a complaint about this keyboard, it would be the lack of a dedicated mute button, and the lack of a dedicated calculator button. Obviously, these aren't deal breakers for me (note that I still gave it 5 stars), and that you still have the option to mute with the FN key, but I especially wish for a calculator button.

It's a good/average keyboard. Great for people new to mechanical keyboards and don't like to customize or have no real preference. It has a USB pass through, so it takes up 2 USB's in the back (1 for the keyboard, and 1 for the extra USB on the keyboard itself for other devices). For it's price, it's definitely a great keyboard. I would recommend it to anyone looking for a low profile full sized keyboard, and like the feel of cherry MX brown switches (it uses the Romer-G switches). Wished it had more lighthing colors, dip switches, and aftermarket keycap support. (if you lose/break a keycap, you have to send it back to Logitech as your only option)

My previous keyboard was a Logitech G110 gaming keyboard. After that I was looking for something sleeker and more minimalist. I didn't really need all the macro keys that the G110 offered so I got this one. It has all your standard keys on it and the F1 keys are programmable. You can also set the Logitech program to recognize game profiles so that your programmable keys will automatically be set up whenever you launch the game. You can also disable keys you don't want activating on the keyboard as well (caps, windows, menu) This might be more software than hardware, but it would be nice if the caps, windows, fn, and menu buttons could all be programmed as well.
