No frills universal disc player
I purchased this player mostly for universal shiny disc playback. The picture quality and audio quality are excellent. The DVD upconversion is excellent as well. I also love the fact that the player has 2-channel RCA outputs for music listening sessions with connection to my Parasound 2-channel preamp. The onboard DAC is good enough that I don't lament the absence of coaxial or optical connections. The UD5007 is lean when it comes to apps but this is not a big deal for me. The apps list includes Netflix, Vudu, Hulu Plus, and YouTube. One major flaw is the fact that the player does not perform native gapless playback from USB or network (from a NAS for example). This can be circumvented by using a continous wave file or modifying cue files but it would be nice to be able to do this with less effort. I suspect Marantz did not want this player to compete with their networking player (which does gapless). Overall this is a great player but it might be a hard choice for some with the probably superior competition of the Oppo-103.

worth money spent
it works with my Marantz AV receiver, would love to have balanced outputs but even with HDMI is doing great job, visible better quality of picture. Netflix and youtube could be improved and at remote controls of amplifier are handy.

Compact 90W per channel system
This is a full feature HD 4K 3D AV receiver in a compact size. Unless your application requires high amperage, the 90W per channel receiver is perfect. 7 HDMI ports plus pass-thru when powered off (stand-by)gives me the flexibility I was looking for and allows simple bypass of my surround system. Using a 5.1 setup lets me use a dedicated "amp 2" to another room but this is a 7.1 system if you need that.
