Best basketball game for 2010!

NBA Live is back! Overall gaming experience 8.5/10. Love the way when a player dunks the rim and the hoop moves. Graphics is 9/10 players look very much real life like to there mannerisms and style of play. Stadiums are dead on. Crowd noise is very realistic. Things I dont like about the game is players miss way too many layups. To many dunks are blocked in a given single game. To many missed calls when a player goes up for a shot and gets fouled and they dont call it and the player even starts to limp down the court afterwards lol. Players make to many shots where they dont shoot a quality shot...like a player will be Deedup and throw up a garbage shot causing contact and they still make the shot anyways all game long. Players can spin all game long and score off that same move the whole game. They must implement the clear path foul to many times Ive had a fast break and people intentionally foul to stop it thats gotta be apart of the game, people shouldn't be allowed to use that as a defensive play. Online experience is very good for this game. But overall this is the best choice for a realistic NBA 5 on 5 basketball game. NBA Live is headed in the right direction with a few tweaks in game play it will be back on top of the video game world for sure. (The bad things that I mentioned wouldn't be so bad if they only happened a couple times a game but, considering they happen the whole game it ruins the awesome game play that this game could have.)

For the past few years NBA Live has been the MLB 2K of basketball.
It was terrible and no one wanted it.
Well, it looks like EA Sports finally put out a good version of Live in 2010. Too bad the same can't be said about 2K Baseball.
This year's version of NBA Live is very nice and I'm not sure why it's getting dogged on here by so many because it is a good game.
The crowds really get into the game giving it a very nice life like feel.
You will enjoy this game.

i like how you can listen to live espn radio while you set up your game. you can watch sportscenter top ten on the virtual tv inside the gym as you set up your game. this is the best live game that ive played since the sega genesis system. i did have the live game with vince carter on it and that game was alright, but it was the nba 2k versions that have dominated the show in recent years. still again no legends like bird, isiah, barkley on the game to play with.

This game is alright, I decided to go ahead and get it sense I already had Madden and didnt want another football game plus the price was 49.99 and you got fight night round 4 for 20 dollars. Overall this game is alright, the graphics in the actual gameplay could be better but that can always be fixed next year. Just like in madden you do have to think about your passes and your shot selection take too many dribbles in the post and the ball will get striped from you. Another thing I like is the hustle plays, players will dive for loose ball etc. Online play is alright, they have a new feature where up to 10 users can play a live game, it lags a little but I can live with that. But over all if you are looking for a fun basketball game to play pick up Live 10.

Overall a decent game. I had to buy it when the price went down to $49.99 and they threw in Fight Night 4 for $19.99. I can't say its better than 2K but it's way better than Live 09. Pros - The graphics are good and the gameplay is great. I like all the new moves and you really have to step your game up you can no longer throw up bad shots and expect them to go in. Cons - The players look a little to glossy to me you can no longer play lock down defense so basically play off or anyone quick will blow right by you. Overall if your looking for a fun basketball game this is it!

The Return of NBA LIVE

I am glad to say that after at least 5-6 years in the hole, EA has started it's return to the top of basketball sim in this years renditions on NBA LIVE. I had begun to lose hope in the series and had switched to the 2K franchise. This year was a huge step in the right direction. EA's presentation has always been very good, and this year is no different. With an ESPN intergrated overlay, you are constantly connected to scores, updates, highlights, etc. The player models are amazing, looking and behaving like their real-life counterparts....all the way down to expressions, tattoos, shoes and signiture moves. With Dynamic DNA, the players' tendencies and abilities are updated during the season along with roster changes and the teams play accordingly. Shooting on this game is affected by shot release(last year you shot the ball and said a prayer) and passing has a direct control also. Dribble size ups allow you to put on a show with a great ball-handler. The downs to the game are that there are a lack of additional features such as the all-star game events, and the couple of other modes lack any real depth. The Adidas Live Run offers up to 10 players online playing simultaneously in a pick-up game, which is pretty cool. The AI sometimes makes poor decisions and passing, etc. But this is the first b-ball sim with illegal picks as an infraction. Overall, I like this game very much and minus the couple of issues, EA has created a great basketball experience this year.

Gameplay is very bad

The Good: Decent graphics, the stadiums and practice facilities look very impressive. The crowd animation is very well done (except when the camera pans out and you look down from the stands). The 10 player online team play is very interesting and fun (but suffers from the horrible gameplay).
The Bad: Mainly the gameplay. The main problem is too many missed layups (by good players) while the opposing team gets Kobe like layups from scrubs. The ball is stripped way too much, even when it is a 1 on 1 situation. The player reaction rate is slow, especially when rebounding and blocking shots (while the cpu is very fast in those aspects). Shooting is horrible, you either have too release fast or slow, but in between doesn't really work. Free throws are difficult. Making a free throw takes a lot of practice, because even the tiniest mistiming on the power bar will result in a miss. Passing is very flawed and slow. Direct passing helps out but too many balls are picked when the intend player is wide open. The pick, initiated by the O button, is annoying since you have to hold the button for the pick to take its course. At the same time you have to use the turbo and other buttons to use the pic. And of course to use the pic and roll efficiently would mean that direct passing has to be used (or else the ball will never go to the intended player). This means three or four buttons have to be pressed at the same time. The PS3 controller isn't designed for this kind of use.
All these things take away from a good looking game and a fun online team play concept. Also, the Dynasty mode really suffers when you have to use gameplay to develop players (training).
The Ugly: I like the graphics but if i could change them i would make the players less bulky and more defined (muscle wise). Also, as i said before the crowd animation is excellent, but when the camera pans out for a stadium look, and the viewpoint is from the stands, looking down on the crowd from behind, the animation isn't too good. Either make that look decent or don't show that view.
