Q: it says we need a dvr.. is that important and if it is, how much os that extras
A: Get the 1080 cameras- huge difference. The pkg I got is- 1 TB DVR / 4 cameras (8 slots) / internet viewable system is about $300 for all that, and expands to 8 cameras. I own it. Plug and play. I also called the place I bought from and got help with the IP internet stuff. Easy peasy. Now I watch all day on my celly, my desktops, and I can rewind and view 6 days of recorded time from 4 cameras. Our bad neighbors are knuckleheads and spend a lot of time in jails so... Awesome camera system to the rescue. I also see where cats are cruising my property and I can choose to feed them or block their entrance. Gets some cat5 cable and place your DVR anywhere. They are not on your LAN, it's wired. Photo shows cameras on porch.
A: Chris I just purchased this system and yes it is compatible with all smart phone. I personally had a few problems with set up but customer service was very helpful and solved my problems.
Q: do thay bring their own power cord

Q: Can you be out of town or overseas and still view the camera through the app on your phone?
A: Yes as long as you have the system connected to the internet. I'm able to check my cameras from work and was really nice is if you have notifications on you get an alert on your phone when it detects movement
A: Good Afternoon. No, the cameras included with your system are not water proof (meaning they cannot be submerged under water). However, all Night Owl cameras are weather proof (meaning they can withstand dirt debris and jets of water). If you will be placing your cameras outside, Night Owl strongly recommends placing them under an eave or awning to maximize their life span. Q: how does it get power or do i have to plug them in
A: You have to plug them in. It comes with one camera power adapter and one four way camera power splitter.
