Synopsis

Open Season
A domesticated grizzly bear finds that there's more to life than being the star attraction of a mountain town nature show when a fast-talking mule deer offers him a crash course in woodland living in Sony Pictures Animation's first full-length animated feature. Raised by kindly park ranger Beth (Debra Messing) since he was a just a cub, 900-pound grizzly Boog (Martin Lawrence) is content to spend his days entertaining Timberline tourists and his nights nestled safely in Beth's luxurious garage. Boog's life is about to get much more complicated, however, when paranoid hunter Shaw (Gary Sinese) returns from a recent foray in the woods with a frightened, one-horn mule deer named Elliot strapped trophy-like to the hood of his truck. Though at first reluctant to answer Elliot's desperate cries for help, gentle giant Boog eventually frees the thankful creature, who in turn decides to teach his hulking friend what it truly means to be free. Subsequently tranquilized and relocated into the wilderness after momentarily reverting to his true animalistic nature, Boog is forced to team with seasoned forest-dweller Elliot in order to find their way out of the woods before hunting season starts and Shaw comes gunning for all creatures great and small. Things are different in the woods than they were back in the safe confines of park ranger Beth's garage, though, and in order to find their way back to Timberline, Boog and Elliot are going to have to rely on the kindness of their fellow creatures, a rowdy and unruly bunch that includes an army of Scottish squirrels led by rogue critter McSquizzy (Billy Connolly), and a productive beaver construction team whose foreman, Reilly (Jon Faverau), is more than willing to lend a helping tail. With hunting season now upon them and time running out as the hunters close in, the unlikely duo of bear and mule deer put their new life lessons to good use by turning the tables on the gun-toting gamesmen, and once again making the woods safe for the furry critters who call the forest home. ~ Jason Buchanan, Rovi

    3D at its finest

Like many 3DTV owners, I am starving for 3D blu-ray titles. There isn't too much out there for adults right now, but there is no shortage of animated children's movies. I purchased this movie because my son likes it and the urge to expand my 3D blu-ray collection got the better of me. I'm glad my willpower was lacking- this is a pretty entertaining little movie for the whole family with some adult humor stealthily embedded from time to time. Plus, the 3D effect is top notch... perhaps the best title in my collection for demonstrating my 3DTV's capabilities to visitors, and that's saying a lot as I have 11 3D blu-ray titles. If you have young children or simply want to wow visitors, you can't go wrong with this movie.

    Great Movie for All

I have seen this movie before on a regular DVD and thought it was both funny and with great animation. However, after watching it on Blu Ray, it is even better. So far due to having little kids, we have purchased many of the kids movies such as Cars, Polar Express, Open Season, etc. We have also purchased regular movies which have been fantastic as well on the PS3 Blu Ray Player. The movie is great and has many top celebrities in it such as Martin Lawrence, Ashton Kutcher and Gary Sinise. The story is funny and again you will be amazed at the picture if you have it hooked up to an HD television. I knew the regular movies would be a new experience but I had no idea that there would be such a difference for animated movies. We definitely enjoyed this movie.

    Worth Checking Out

Open Season is not by any means a bad movie. The CGI is excellent and the cast provides the characters with great personalities, but there's just not much beyond that. Its a simple movie that kids will enjoy which makes it fun for the whole family. Many laughs to be found here, just nothing too terribly memorable. I watched it once, enjoyed it, and then put it on the shelf- haven't touched it since. I think I was just eager to build my Bluray collection when it first came out since not much was available. Now that the novelty of Bluray has worn off a little, I'd be more than willing to put this on my rental list than to just buy it outright. Still, its worth checking out- so have a family movie night and enjoy!

    Nice 3d

If I am not mistaking, this was converted to 3d for blu. Not a bad job though. It had some nice depth to it. I really only bought it for the 3d. I saw it when it was released years ago on dvd so I knew the storyline. I can't down it for the story because I already knew it. Considering its an old movie that is now in 3d the price is reduce a tad bit. Could be a few bucks cheaper though. Eventually it will. I am just building up my 3d library. There is no regret on the purchase so its a keeper.

Bought this for our new 3d TV , and found the 3D and eye popping color to be incredible. We just started our 3d collection and only own around 10 movies, but found the effects and color in this movie to be one of the best in our collection. The animated movies seem to be the way to go. You won't be disapointed with the effects !

This movie is not nearly as good as Madagascar or Ice Age. The graphics are pretty good and that was almost the only thing good about this movie. The story line is very short and disappointing… I’m glad that I bought this movie on sale.
