- Answer It needs double a batteries to power up the display. Also note that the display doesn't have a back lit and it may seem dark looking from certain angles.

- Answer The phone plugs into a phone line connector..but you will need the batteries for the caller ID purposes it will not show whos calling without the batteries, but overall the phone work.

- Answer The phone does not have an "on hold" button. I don't know whether this will help, but the phone has two features to improve hearing the other person while using the phone. One is the "audio assist" button which, according to the instructions, "makes the sound louder and clearer while on a call." The other is the volume control button which, according to the instructions, during a phone call you can "press to adjust the listening volume." This is the first landline I've purchased with these two features.

- Answer If the batteries fail the phone itself will continue to work but the display will be blank. The batteries therefore are needed only to power the display screen.

- Answer I tried it. I didn't get an error on my cell phone that the text message couldn't be sent, but the text message also never appeared on the desk phone.
