QuestionIs the screen touch only or can you use a pen also?

- Answer I haven’t thought about using a pen on the system. I found this Though the newest 2017 model 13 and 15" Inspirons will take active pens, the 17" is a touch screen only - you can use a generic capacitive stylus (see example below) -- but not an active pen that works with pressure-sensitive digitizers -- which the 17" model does not have.

NOTE: The solid-state drive is the primary drive. The storage specifications designed and tested to work are : → M.2 2230 solid-state drive, PCIe NVMe 3 x4, Up to 1 TB → M.2 2280 solid-state drive, PCIe NVMe 3 x4, Up to 1 TB → One 2.5-inch hard drive, SATA AHCI 6 Gbps, Up to 2 TB MY COMMENTS There are 2 slots - one PCIe MVNe slot and one 2.5-inch SATA HD slot. Currently Dell sells only configuations with a single PCI3 NVMe 256 GB drive or a SATA 2.5-inch 256GB drive with a Intel Optane 32BG PCI3 accelerator (in the PCEe slot), but these can be upgraded - either by Geek Squad or you can do it yourself if you don't mind taking the bottom cover off and removing a couple things (Dell has Service Manual on web site available for this computer documenting how to remove/replace everything).

- Answer Not sure what you are asking here, but I can tell you if you have a cell phone, you can sync it to this laptop. This allows you to answer, text, and retrieve documents and pictures directly from your phone. Syncing is optional. Otherwise, no, you do not need a phone to use this computer. You do need internet for uploads and downloads of programs and e-mail. There is no dvd/cd player.

- Answer Hello! You have several options. You can run one monitor from the HDMI output and one USB-C monitor from the USB-C port. You can run two HDMI monitors by connecting one directly and using an adapter or docking station for the second HDMI monitor.

- Answer Yes, this computer lets you interface by touch pad or by touch screen or by wireless mouse. When I'm using my Bluetooth mouse I disable the touch pad so that my wrist or sleeve does not accidentally brush the pad. To do this go into Windows > settings > devices > touchpad and uncheck the box Enable touchpad while mouse is connected. By unchecking the box the touch pad will be disabled unless your mouse battery goes down or your mouse is unavailable. Then the pad will automatically activate.

- Answer Hello! Yes. This should meet the specification for the needed software. But I recommend checking with your school to find out what programs, aside from AutoCAD will be needed. This does have a dedicated graphics card, Core i7, and plenty of RAM and storage, this should work well. You can also purchase a Dell Active Pen to use when you are using it in tablet mode. You might also want to consider an external storage device to save your projects to keep your device's memory for your software programs.

QuestionDoes this 17' inspiron have a cooling fan? I noticed it gets really hot along with the power supply brick also even hotter. I cant hear a fan or anything. Can this handle and extra monitor and stock charts with how hot it gets? I cant afford it to stutter

- Answer You can run the DELL Power Manager Program and select thermal management. You will find several settings to balance your work load with Processor speed and fan speed. Each setting is explained allowing each user to select their preferred option. A link is included for additional settings in the control panel.
