    • Answer Hi BC - Thanks for your interest! Model JES1657SMSS is intended for coutertop use only. This model is not equipped with a built-in vent or exhaust. It does have an interior light. If you will be installing a microwave above a cooktop or range, choose a GE Over-the-Range Microwave. Check out GE® 1.6 Cu. Ft. Over-the-Range Microwave Oven Model #: JVM3160RFSS.   • QuestionIt says the depth is 17, but is that the depth of the microwave, or does that include the inches you have to leave it away from the wall?

    • Answer HI - Model JES1657SMSS is approximately 17 3/4 deep (Dimensions: 12 7/8 H x 21 3/4 W x 17 3/4 D). This does not include recommended air clearance. Allow 3" of clearance on both sides and the top and 1" clearance in the rear. Also, the front edge of the microwave (measured at door) should sit at least 3" or more back on the counter or shelf to avoid accidental tipping. Thanks for considering GE! Sue

  • Questionhow long does it take to heat a plate of food

    • Answer The speed of reheating is completely subjective to what food is on the plate. A 12 oz cold steak might take one and half minutes to reheat, but three soft tacos will reheat in 30-40 seconds. A single-serving of cold lasagna takes probably a minute. Mashed potatoes reheat faster than the piece of sirloin steak next to it. It really depends on what the dish is you're reheating. At tops, a plate of food will not take any longer than 2 minutes unless it's piled high on the plate and you want stuff scalding hot.
