  • QuestionI just installed my GE fridge yesterday. It is freezing most of the items all over the refrigerator. I have turned up the temperature to the max 42 degrees but it's still freezing. Any suggestions? Thank you!

    • Answer Hi Al- Thanks for choosing GE. We are sorry to hear your foods are freezing and apologize for any inconvenience this has caused. We suggest to set the temperatures at factory settings- 37F for the refrigerator and 0F for the freezer. Allow 24 hours for the temperatures to stabilize. Food load is an important factor. The drawers and compartment should ideally be 1/2 full or more. Freezing occurs when the refrigerator does not having enough food to absorb the cold air. If foods in the crisper, deli, and/or snack drawers are freezing, make sure the bins are at least 1/2 full. If the drawer has adjustable temperature and items are freezing, adjust the drawer to a lower setting. If the refrigerator temperature sensor is blocked, it may not be able to correctly sense temperature to control cooling. The temperature sensor is located at the top of the refrigerator, on the ceiling above the top shelf. The sensor looks like a dome with slats. Move items so there is 6 inches of clearance around the sensor. If this does not help, service may be required.   • QuestionDoes this unit have a linear compressor? How many evaporators?

    • Answer Hi ShoppingForFridge - The refrigerator has a reciprocating compressor, designed to give years of reliable service. We do not offer a refrigerators with linear (inverter) compressors. Also, the refrigerator is equipped with TwinChill™ Evaporators and Frost Guard. Dual evaporators maintain separate environments in both the fresh food and freezer compartments to manage temperature and humidity levels and keep foods fresh. Cold, dry air stays in the freezer compartment to prevent freezer burn, and more humid air stays in the fresh food section to keep fresh food fresh longer. Frost Guard (adaptive defrost) means that the refrigerator will only defrost as needed. It accounts for door openings and usage to determine when it is necessary to defrost and how long the defrost cycle needs to run. If the refrigerator is not being frequently used (ex. family on vacation), it will not defrost as often.   • QuestionHow much ice does this make? I see specs for some models and the range is 1 lb to 4 lbs?

    • Answer Not enough! The ice container is on one of the doors and is very small. My old refrigerator had a large container but took up more freezer space. So with the new bottom freezer you gain storage space but lose ice space.

  • QuestionMy ice maker makes a very loud knocking noise when water dispense like after you get ice . Is this normal ??

Water lines supplying the refrigerator may make a loud bang due to a condition called "water hammer". Water hammer is a knocking or banging noise in a water line that occurs when the water valve opens and closes. This is caused by high water pressure from the house going into the refrigerator.   • QuestionHow far out does the freezer drawer pull out from the refrigerator? I see lot's of specs, but none that tell me how far the drawer pulls out. I am wondering how much space I need in order to be able to access the freezer drawer if standing in front.

  • Questionthe front control panel words (ie, fridge, freezer, ice, water) are hard to see, are they supposed to be lighted or does that panel have backlighting, , other than the lighting for the dispenser? The one we saw in the store was not plugged in.

    • Answer Hi fromflorida - Thanks for considering GE! The control panel is not backlit. The external controls, “wake-up” when the control is touched. The refrigerator controls will turn-off/fade after a certain period of non-use. Press and release the Freezer or Fridge pad. The display will show the set temperature.   • QuestionMy GE GFE28GSKSS fridge has stopped making ice. The unit is only 6 months old. The water works fine. The ice tray and cube maker are empty and all parts appear to move freely. Any ideas?
