Q: Questionis the optional charcoal filter available at Best Buy? If not where? Is the optional filter permanent or is this an ongoing maintenance thing?

• A:Answer Hi - Thanks for considering GE Model JVX5300EJES! If the hood is not vented outdoors, JXCF55 Charcoal Filter is required for recirculating installation and can be purchased online at www.geapplianceparts.com. This disposable charcoal filter helps remove smoke and odors. It is recommended that the charcoal filter be replaced every 6-12 months or if it is noticeably dirty or discolored. Q: QuestionHow deep an upper cabinet will this fit? Our cabinets are 14" from wall to front instead of the typical 12" deep. Will this work for us with the front vent located where it is? It will be venting inside, not externally.

• A:Answer Hi djts - This hood is designed for 12” cabinets and the Cabinet Spacer (JXS50SS sold separately) can be used when installing it in a 15” deep cabinet. For a 14" deep cabinet, this hood can be mounted forward without using the JXS50SS, but there will just be a 2” gap in the back. If this is done, you will want to protect the underside of the cabinet in the back. That can be as simple as a flat sheet of steel attached in that space. We hope this is helpful. • A:Answer Hi there, this is a really good question. This vent hood is convertible, meaning that it can be installed to be externally vented to the outside or recirculating. When installed to recirculate, the unit circulates the air through a grease filter then through a charcoal filter to remove odors. The filtered air is then discharge back into the room. • A:Answer I've found the hoods fan to be fairly quiet. It has 3 speeds, and all but high are quite good. No rattles or other annoying sounds. in the fan body. I put a thin foam sealer tape around the exhaust ducting where it mates to the unit so there is no metal to metal contact there to rattle.

• A:Answer We always recommend disconnecting the power by flipping off the breaker and turning off the light switch. You'll remove the light cover, unscrew the light, counterclockwise to unlock the light and pull out. Replace the new light of the same type (standard incandescent), making sure the socket is properly inserted into the housing of the lamp holder. Please review page 8 in the manual for more details. You can find the manual on Best Buys site and on our GE Appliances site.

• A:Answer There is some airflow through both filters, it’s just not precisely equal. This stye vent hood that uses a single centrifugal blower are offset to one side, and it is an industry standard practice to get better overall airflow. -Vikki@GEAppliances

• A:Answer While not completely equal, when operating normally, there will be airflow through both sides. We recommend checking that the ductwork is free of obstructions, the damper swings freely, and the filters are clean. You can find filter cleaning instructions on page 7 and installation information starting on page 9 of the manual. The manual is located at the bottom of the 'Features' tab on the Best Buy product page. We also recommend performing the tissue test to check for proper draw of the vent. You can find instructions for this in the article titled "Hood Vent System Draw" on the GE Appliances website.
