  • QuestionI bought GE washer model GE550 and it went through the fill-wash-rinse-spin but got the H2O Supply error after the spin. The fabric softener is not dispensed as well. Do you have idea why it happened?

    Asked by Home1.

    • Answer Hi Home1 - Thanks for reaching out to us regarding your GE Washer Model GFW550SSNWW. We are sorry to hear of this unfortunate experience and glad to help. Check the house water supply and be certain both the Hot and Cold valves are fully on and not reversed. As soon as the message starts to scroll, the washer will initiate a 4 minute lockout period. The washer controls won't respond/change during this time. After the 4 minutes, you can begin your cycle again. If you try to bypass the lock-out period by unplugging the washer, the 4 minute timer will start over again. A technician may be required for an accurate diagnosis. To schedule service online visit: https://www.geappliances.com/ge/service-and-support/service.htm - We're glad to have you in the family and apologize for any inconvenience this has caused. Keep in touch! Sue

  • QuestionI just had my GFW550SSNWW washer delivered & installed yesterday and ran it today. It’s a great machine but vibrates a ton on the spin cycle. My walls and floors were vibrating like crazy. Is this normal? If so, is there anything I can do to minimize it?

    Asked by Ravenwood41.

    • Answer Just purchased this same washer and ours is vibrating loudly also—the technician leveled the unit but it still bangs during spin cycle

  • Questionhow to get sound to work on ge washer model #gfw550ssnoww

    Asked by rabbit.

    • Answer BB just installed a GFW55OSSNWW and a GFD55ESSNWW smart washer and dryer at my home. The end of cycle sound function is absolutely useless. Even on the highest setting the sound cannot be heard in an adjacent room. I enabled WIFI on both, and it will notify me on my phone with the SmartHQ app. However, both the washer and dryer notification is the same, so I can't tell if it is the washer or the dryer that has completed its cycle. Furthermore, GE claims Alexa compatibility, but I cannot get either the washer or dryer to announce on an Echo device that the cycle has completed using GE's SmartHQ Alexa Skill. VERY DISAPPOINTED!

  • QuestionDo the new GE washers have a direct drive motor or are they belt drive?

    Asked by BobAC12186.

    • Answer Hello there BobAC12186, Thanks so much for reaching out. GE and Hotpoint washers will have a Direct Drive System or a Belt Driven System. Belt driven - One belt runs from the motor for both agitating and spinning the tub. Direct driven - No belt. Motor turns the tub. The below is a general guide for determining if a washer has a direct drive vs a drive with belt & pulley system. The product specifications for the model will typically indicate which type of controls the model has. Front Load Washers: 27” and 28" - Belt and pulley driven system with no transmission. Exception: The GFW480 and GFW490 are direct drive units. 24" - Direct drive system. Top Load washers - Electronic Controls and Electronic Controls with Selector Knob. All pushbutton control (example: Harmony; WPGT9150; etc.) - Direct drive system. Electronic controls w/Cycle Selector Knob (Touch control for options and selector knob for Cycles) which includes models GTW845, GTW840, GTW725 & GTW720 - Direct drive system. Exception: Models GTW755, GTW750, GTW685 and below - Belt and pulley driven system. Top Load washers - Electro-Mechanical / Rotary-Electrical Controls (all knobs)*. 1947 to 2012 - Belt and pulley driven system with transmission. 2012 to present - Belt and pulley driven system with no transmission. *"All Knobs" does not include the Start or Deep Fill button. "All knobs" refers to the Options, Cycles, Load Size, etc. knobs. Unitized Laundry Centers - Belt and pulley driven system. Compact (Spacemaker) - Direct drive system. We hope this information is helpful. Mike@GEA
