QuestionI just got my GE 4.8 High-Efficiency Smart Load Washer model # GFW650SPNSN with the SmartDispense. Question is when using the smartdispense, does the machine know if I am using soft water, and will it use less liquid detergent if the water is soft?

- Answer Don’t use the Smart Dispenser. Add my own HE liquid soap based on amount I have used for 8 years with my old Samsun washer.

QuestionWhat is the clearance needed above the washer (and a same-height electric GE dryer)? We have cabinets we may need to move up. Also side and back ventilation and other clearance requirements?

- Answer Good day, We're more than happy to answer your questions! For the washer, all sides require no clearances. For the matching electric dryer, it also requires no clearance, however, if you want a better performance, 1/2" clearance for each side is needed. Thank you for choosing GE! Mike@GEA

- Answer Hi - Thank you for your interest in this feature packed GE front-load washer. The compatible optional pedestal is the GFP1528SNWW. The pedestal is 16" high and allows for convenient storage of detergent and fabric softener bottles. We also offer an optional riser model - GFR0728SNWW. The riser increases the height of your washer or dryer by 7 inches, making it easier to load and unload laundry and allowing you to use the top as a folding surface. We hope this helps. Vikki@GEA

QuestionMy washer is very loud when in the spin cycle. Has anyone else experienced this? When I say loud I feel like it is jet engine loud!!

- Answer I experienced this too, but think I figured out the problem...when they delivered it, they removed the shipping bolts, but NOT the shipping Brackets....the instructions clearly state not removing the shipping brackets from the back can cause the washer to become SEVERELY imbalanced

QuestionThere is no “Spin Only” option that is obvious -Is there a way to make the washer spin only ? Occasionally my bulky loads (rugs, pillows and such) are dripping wet at end of wash cycle

- Answer Hi dmark1867 - "Tank Low" will display when the SmartDispense tank needs to re-filled. Typically, this first lights up when there are approximately 8-10 loads of detergent remaining. "Loads Left" displays the estimated number of wash loads left for the amount of detergent in the SmartDispense tank. - Answer Hey there, We'll be happy to answer your question! You can turn the auto dispenser off to manually add any detergent of your choice. Simply press the Smart Dispense pad until it is off before starting your load. QuestionThe power button is so sensitive that the washer turns off when I lean over the unit to reach something. How can I either lock in the wash cycle or restart the washer where it left off?

- Answer This is really annoying. Why doesn’t the power button lock with the rest of the buttons? This happens to me a good bot, not just me barely brushing against it and it turns off but also little ones love to push buttons and the lock feature is basically useless since it doesn’t work on all controls.

QuestionI put the liquid detergent and fabric softener in my dispenser (Mine does not have the Smart Dispense), then pressed start. When the water came in to take the wash soap it also took in my fabric softener into the machine. Normal? Filled as book said.

- Answer I just installed the same washing machine. I have been having the same problem. The softener is dispensed at the same time as the detergent. I have not overfilled it. During the rinse cycle the prewash soap dispenser is dispensed. If I use the rinse and spin cycle, the prewash soap dispenser is also used again. I know this because I sat there in front of my machine for an entire cycle, used small cups in all the dispenser areas to judge the dispensing of all of the compartments. The prewash compartment dispensed as it should when prewash was selected. This is appears to be a computer programming problem. It was programmed wrong and needs to be fixed.
