Q: QuestionI just received my Opal yesterday after finally tossing a very loved Yisufo. The ice is very wet and the Opal is turning off after making a quarter of the ice. Is it broken? Since the ice is wet, freezing it doesn't work which is important to me!
Asked by Laura.
- A:Answer When you first start the Opal and it begins to make ice, the initial batches of ice nuggets will be slushy. After about 30 minutes, your Opal will be making good, solid nuggets. If the ice nuggets are all slushy, even the ones at the top of the ice bin, the Opal may need to be cleaned. Water quality is very important to the function and required maintenance of your ice maker. Minerals from your water can build up in the Opal over time, which would then need to be cleaned. We recommend using distilled water in your Opal. Even bottled water can have high mineral content.

Q: QuestionWhere do you put in water to make ice and how long does it last? How much water does it need per time to make ice?
Asked by Poplar.
- A:Answer Fill reservoir with potable (safe to drink) water up to the "Max Fill" line. Using any liquid except potable water is misuse and will void your warranty. The Opal will start to make ice within 10 minutes. It will continue to make ice until the bin is full or it runs out of water.

Q: QuestionDoes it come with filter already inserted? Should light of ice bin stay on all the time? Is this made to run and make ice continuously or only as needed?
Asked by Lisa.
- A:Answer this model comes with the water filter installed. The ice bin light just shows status and doesn’t need to stay on, and the unit makes ice continuously as long as there’s water and space in the bin.

Q: QuestionDoes this have water hook up option?
Asked by Macman.
- A:Answer Opal's do not have the capability to be connected via a water line. They instead rely on the water reservoir to produce ice, it will also collect the melted water from unused cubes so that the water isn't wasted.

Q: QuestionCan this unit be kept in a large closet (we have an outlet in there) since we have no room in the kitchen to keep it on the counter?
Asked by TClaire1123.
- A:Answer You can install this ice maker in a large closet as long as there is proper air flow and adequate clearance (3" at the rear and the sides) allowed for airflow around the sides and back of the unit. If the ice maker is installed in an enclosed cabinet, the rate of ice making will be reduced due to higher temperatures within the cabinet.
