A:Answer This is an excellent choice for a young action videographer. It is durable and it takes great video. The model that you choose depends on how you intend to use it. If your son is just going to mount it on his skateboard, bike, or helmet, then there is no need for the LCD to help frame the shots. You can get the less expensive Hero+. If he doesn't have an iPad, iPod, iPhone or Android device to control it via WiFi or Bluetooth, then you can get the base model Hero. That's the real difference between the Hero, Hero+, and Hero+LCD.
There are other difference in the base Hero like the slow motion setting is only available at lower resolution and it also takes lower resolution stills and lower bit rate video. So the Hero is more limited shooting and no Wifi or Bluetooth and the Hero+ and Hero+LCD take higher quality video and stills and only differ in the LCD. If he is going to use it as a hand-held camera I would definitely get the Hero+LCD.
