- Answer You don’t need a computer to set up the printer. You can download the HP smart app to install the printer. It also has a small LCD screen that can be used to navigate menu features to connect it to your home WiFi.

QuestionHas anyone had trouble with the ink drying out from little use? Does the printer have a standby maintenance mode to keep the ink from drying out?

- Answer The best way to keep the ink from drying out is to make sure you turn the printer off with the power button on the printer when you're not using it. That will cap the print heads so they're not exposed to the air, which is actually what usually happens when people think the ink has dried out-it's actually dried in the printhead.

- Answer Yes, you can print in single cartridge on this printer. That means you can print with only the black ink cartridge. Just take out the color ink cartridge when it is empty, then it will go into single cartridge mode.

QuestionIt appears this printer cannot be plugged into a surge protector? I currently have a Brothers printer (BW) that is in the same protector, no issues. Is this a common thing with any HP printers?

- Answer We haven’t had any issues with our HP printers (including this one) being plugged into surge protectors. Ours is plugged into the Monster Power AV-725 surge protector

- Answer Yes, you can print in single cartridge mode. HP's exclusive feature, Single Cartridge Mode, allows you to print with only one cartridge -- just don't leave the empty one in. So you never have to buy color if you don't want to. I would just advise to set up with both cartridges in the box first. Then, you can use single cartridge mode.

- Answer Yes, you can connect it to other Bluetooth enabled device. The printer also has a feature called "WiFi Direct" which allows you to create a printer-only wireless network for devices that don't have Bluetooth, or if you want to use a device without pairing it through Bluetooth.

- Answer Supposedly you can - There is a free plan if you want to use the instant ink (up to 15 pages for month) You can also opt out if you want to buy the ink separately (this one uses the HP 65 ink which is about $15-20 for black or color (normal size) and 30-35 per color for XL size.

QuestionWhat exactly does "$10 of instant ink included" mean? How do you get this? Do you have to enroll in the plan for that and then the $10 of instant ink is mailed to you?

- Answer Basically, there is a card attached to the box with a code that you have to scratch off. When you are registering for the Instant Ink program, you can enter this code for $10 credit towards the charges for ink. The value of this $10 will essentially depend on the plan that you choose. There are 3 levels: 1) 50 Pages / month @ $2.99 / month, 2) 100 Pages / month @$4.99 / month, and 3) 300 Pages / month @ 9.99 / month So, the $10 credit will cover either 1, 2, or 3 months - depending on which plan you choose.
