I just bought the HP 7155 and am setting it up. In the set up instructions it states that you can use the printer wirelessly without a router using WiFi Direct. Make sure it is enabled on the printer. Then from your smartphone or any device with the app you can print directly. You can go to

for info. So, again, you are able to print without a router.
