A:Answer On the product web page, the compatibility section lists this for MacBooks: "2020/2019/2018/2017/2016 MacBook Pro". That's a bit vague, as the M1 MacBook pro seems to have come out in November of 2020, but it does make me think this spec hints at your issue being one of compatibility.
For what it's worth, no special driver download was needed for using this with a 2020 Intel MacBook Pro, so this might be something Apple themselves didn't support across architectures. That's speculation on my part though.
