QuestionWill this product convert 5.1 LPCM (HDMI in) to Dolby Digital (HDMI out) with video passthrough? Nintendo Switch will only output LPCM 5.1, but my TV and soundbar will only accept LPCM 2.0 or Dolby Digital

- Answer Thank you for your inquiry! The Insignia™ HDMI Audio Extractor with 4K @ 60Hz / HDR Support (Model: NS-HZ340) does not convert 5.1 LPCM audio to Dolby Digital. While it supports audio extraction from HDMI and allows output via 3.5mm analog or optical (SPDIF), it only passes through the audio format it receives and does not perform any audio format conversion. This means that if your Nintendo Switch outputs LPCM 5.1, and your TV or soundbar only supports LPCM 2.0 or Dolby Digital, this extractor will not convert the signal to a compatible format.

- Answer It depends what you are trying to accomplish. The Samsung sounder you have is designed for a surround sound experience and has the ability to add 2 Samsung wireless rear speakers for additional sound coverage in the surround mode. you can add 2 ceiling speakers many different ways but you will not be adding to the surround experience because they will not get processed by any device to send the audio that is needed to those speakers. They will only get unprocessed audio like the bar and could cause a sync issue where the ceiling speakers and sounder are not playing the same audio at the same exact moment. I would only use the ceiling speakers if you were adding this audio to another room where a sync issue would not be recognized. Hope this was helpful. - Answer I've answered my own question. The extractor is not capable of transcoding DD+ (the format that Netflix and almost every streaming platform now uses) to regular DD 5.1. Therefore it simply outputs a stereo signal.
