It is possible to use the dock without the 100W power supply, but doing so may not provide enough power to the computer or docking depending on the power requirements of the computer and the power adapter that comes with your computer. QuestionI have a JCD543 docking station. When plugged into my Aspire 5 laptop the external monitor, HP Elite E231 works fine but when I plug the display into the docking station using the same connector it isn't recognized. why?

- Answer The JCD543 USB-C Triple Display Docking Station requires that the driver be installed. If your computer is running Windows 10 or later it can automatically install the driver, but you may need to manually install the driver in some cases by visiting the j5create website and clicking on the "SUPPORT" tab to find the driver. Additionally the Type-C port on your computer must support DisplayPort Alternate Mode (commonly found on Thunderbolt 3, Thunderbolt 4, and USB4 laptops). QuestionHow long is the cord?

- Answer The docking station is 13.75' long. The cord is contained within a 1"x13.75" compartment under the hinged silver top in the back and originates from the middle within that compartment. The cord is approximately 19" long and can exit stated compartment on the left or right side, or out the middle of the back. If routed to left or right side, only 12" will be available outside the docking station. If you chose to exit out the back, about 18" will be available outside the unit. Excess cord can be contained within the compartment if desired.

QuestionI saw a concern about this blocking the venting system on the back of a laptop. I have a Lenovo Think Pad and am wondering if this would still be good to use with my laptop. I don't want to block the vent on the back.

- Answer If the vent is on the rear blowing parallel to the keyboard, you will not have an issue as your laptop rear edge sits on the dark grey portion (above the ports). If your laptop vents are on the bottom rear edge, then you will have the same issue as the laptop sitting on a table. Of course, the term laptop means one would expect that you could put the computer on your lap and operate it w/o hot air going directly onto your thighs but I've seen that at least once over the years!

QuestionWhen I plug both HDMI cables into the back of the JCD543, only the HDMI port with the white line works. Is there a way to fix this? (I'm not plugging the HDMI directly into the laptop).

- Answer I am not a tech person, but here's my two cents. Both of my HDMI ports are working. I have them plugged in with a space between them. One of my monitors has TWO HDMI ports in the back. I had to switch out the one I plugged into on the monitor before it would work. You can also change the setting on the monitor itself to choose to input from the other HDMI port, but I thought it was easier to just plug into the other one. It sounds like you could have a different issue, but I thought I would share just in case. I also had to set up both monitors on my laptop under "Multiple Monitors," I believe. Best of luck to you!
