  • QuestionI'm new to Smart TV's. Currently streaming with Roku. I see in the Q's some referencing using Roku with this SmartTV, but they don't explain why. Why would you still need Roku with a Smart TV? Thanks

    Asked by Chrisinroch.

    • Answer Great question. I only have 2 negatives for this TV (see my review) and the LG app store is one of them. My hope was that I could stop using my Roku with this TV and just use the apps directly on the TV. I could not find a complete listing of the apps available on the LG app store. So I had to hope and pray the apps I wanted were available. They were not. Mainly, Pluto TV. There were a couple others that weren't available also. Because of this, I have to keep using my Roku with this brand new tv, because of the lack of apps in their App store. From what I read, its because LG had their own versions of apps, such as Pluto TV, and wants people to use those. If their app had the same stations I like on Pluto TV on their app, then they have a viable alternative, but of course they don't. So its a useless alternative. Like I said in another answer on here, I'm hoping their apps fail miserably soon, so they will just open up their store to all available apps. I've read on here someone reported they don't offer the ESPN app. I'm hoping they don't make these apps pay crazy prices to host their apps, which will prevent them from going to the lG store. in today's world of apps, I can't believe any manufacturer would limit their library. Its just a negative from buying your product, because people want specific apps they like.

  • QuestionDoes it have built-in speakers?

    Asked by Dave.

    • Answer Yes, And they have surprisingly good sound. The salesman said my old tv would have better speakers and recommend a sound bar. However that wasn’t the case. I did purchase a sound bar at the same time but the only time I use it is when I watch new movies and want to rattle the windows. My wife claims she can hear everything I watch crystal clear from our upstairs bedroom. And the Bluetooth allows the use of cordless headphones if you don’t want to disturb anyone.

  • QuestionDo you have to set it up to the internet? Or can you use like a regular "dumb" TV?

    Asked by Kittypuss.

    • Answer I automatically connect my equipment to the internet as I cut the cord years ago. I do not believe it's a requirement but it will not get any firmware or software updates for the TV itself and obviously any apps. You can simply connect to the cable, satellite dish or indoor or outdoor digital antennae for a video source as it does not have a built in antennae to my knowledge. Just choose the correct input source at setup and ignore the other bells and whistles and it should be fine. I spent the extra due to using the internet to stream video/TV for a better picture as the main TV in the house. I would however go cheaper if the picture is not your main priority or if used elsewhere and is not the main source of enjoyment in the house. Personal choice.
