  • QuestionIf I use this device with a Mac, will it play Blu-Rays or only DVDs?

    Asked by Anonymous.

    • Answer Hello there! Thank you for your question regarding the BP50NB40. This external Blu-ray drive is compatible with both Mac and Windows systems. However, to play Blu-rays on a Mac, additional third-party software may be required, as macOS doesn't have native support for Blu-ray playback. DVDs, on the other hand, can be played without any additional software. If you need recommendations for Blu-ray software or have further questions, feel free to send us a private message on Social Media @LGUSSupport. We're here to assist! • QuestionWill this unit work with an device running Android operating system like a Samsung tablet.

    Asked by Richard.

    • Answer Doesn't look like it. Even with a USB A to USB C thunderbolt, all it does is power the device, not read it. Even with larger tablets there's an operating system and codec issue due to copyrights.

  • QuestionWill this play blu-ray DVD’s on my MacBook Air M2 laptop?

    Asked by LushLass82.

    • Answer Yes. The drive requires two USB A connections, and you will need either USB C adapters or a hub - I used my hub and it worked. You will need to download software to play any video as the disc that comes with the drive is Windows only software. I did a trial of Video Byte - VLC had AACS Decoding issues - and it played just fine with a watermark which will go away once you buy the software. Hope this helps! I have two of these now and love them.

  • QuestionWill this work to play Blu-Ray movies for my MacBook Air laptop computer M2 I got in 2023? My Apple Drive only works for DVD and music CD’s . Thank you very much. Most of my DVD’s are Blu-Ray’s. Thank you. Much appreciated! Celtic Barb

    Asked by Anonymous.

    • Answer Hi there, Celtic Barb! Thank you for reaching out about the LG BP50NB40 and its compatibility with your MacBook Air. The LG BP50NB40 is a Blu-ray/DVD external drive, and it should work for playing Blu-ray movies on your MacBook Air. However, there are a couple of things to keep in mind: Software: Your MacBook Air will need compatible software to play Blu-ray discs. macOS doesn’t include native support for Blu-ray playback, so you may need to install third-party Blu-ray player software like Leawo Blu-ray Player or Macgo Blu-ray Player. Connection: Ensure that the external drive is properly connected to your MacBook Air using a USB port. You might need a USB-C to USB adapter if your MacBook Air only has USB-C ports.
