QuestionAre there extenders for the 970 series? Or are they not necessary? I have and old orbi system with RBR50, 1 RBS and 2 plug in extenders for outdoor ring cameras and outdoor wifi capabilities.

- Answer In my experience, extenders are not necessary with the Orbi 970 series. The mesh WiFi with this system is able to connect with my Google Nest cameras and doorbell with no extender. One of my outdoor cameras is located approximately 40 feet from the router base unit and it has no problem staying connected to the WiFi network.

QuestionMy Orbi 970 is dropping offline about every two weeks, connected to a Spectrum modem. Is there anything I can do, and what can replace it in a 3000 sq..ft. House with 45 devices? When it works, it works great, BUT this is ridiculous!

QuestionI have an Orbi 970 series BE 27000 router with 3 satellites. My question is can I connect the router to a power strip outlet or will this cause the router to drop offline? I’m connected to a Spectrum modem model DOCSIS 3.1

- Answer I would recommend plugging directly into a battery backup device rather than a power strip outlet. This will allow you time after a power outage to power down the router. (I also own an Orbi 970 series router).

- Answer No, you need to use the appropriate model satellites. That would help make them more affordable! I’ve had my old Orbi for years. Thinking about upgrading but it’s $$$$ expensive.

QuestionI have a 3,000 square foot house with a large backyard. Would this system be good for good wifi connection even in the backyard and should I get the two pack or three? I can get one satellite within 20 feet of the main sliding glass door to the backyard

- Answer You can start with a two pack and see how it works. It depends on several factors for connectivity. But once you are up and running with two, the app will show you your WiFi signal strength. I’m fairly sure two will cover. I have a 2800 sf home and use the older model and I get coverage in my backyard and front with two satellites.

QuestionI have come to the conclusion wifi on this model is not going to cut it. I can be 5-15' from the router or the same from a wired backhaul RBS and not get over 1500Mbps. Now my wired things are 2300 plus Mbps all day long. Anyone tried Eero?

- Answer You have limitations from your actual devices. Just because you have the latest and greatest technology for your router your weakest link is your older device. Additionally your new mesh has better bandwidth for 100-200 devices vs my older mesh has 45. And everything in my home is using WiFi.

- Answer Likely to be convection, or possibly some form of small fan. You could probably assume that the manufacturer did some form of testing of the ventilation incorporated into the product to prevent overheating and desalinization of the unit, but *shrug*.

- Answer It will not stay on. If you have a light there is a problem.

QuestionWill the Orbi 970 Wi-Fi 7 system be firmware updated after the final wi-fi 7 standard is finalized? ie: Will the system be able to work with the final standard once finalized without compromising features? Thank you

- Answer I’m fairly certain it will. They do compatibly testing prior to releasing any updates. And if something happens, you will get a new update. I do monthly updates checks and reboots, seems like my old mesh hasn’t had an update for a year. And runs flawlessly. But I have more devices than it supports.

QuestionI'm in an $1800 nightmare! 970 system has issues. Satellites go down on me at least once a day wirelessly. But router stays up! Router is connected to fiber at the 10 gig port and a 2.5 gig switch. Also 2nd 10gig port is connected to the first satellite.

- Answer Ive been stuck in the same problem with Netgear since purchasing this system in april of this year (2025). The last sets of communications i have gotten from them seem to indicate it is an engineering issue :(
