  • QuestionCan a solar charger be connected to the camera?

    Asked by Terry.

    • Answer In principle, yes, but it would need to be designed specifically for charging size 18650 batteries. One of the customer-posted images suggests two batteries are connected in series within each camera, so you wanted to confirm if they are in series or in parallel. You'd want your solar charging system to recognize the charging requirements of such batteries to prevent damaging the batteries which could be very hazardous, or less seriously reducing the lifetime of the batteries. Note that if shorted out, an 18650 battery can be quite damaging. I had one short out while I was holding it in my hand. In less than a second its temperature rose to what would have given me a very serious burn, thus I dropped it immediately. A flame was coming forth from one end of the battery and it was propelled to the next room which was carpeted (synthetic fibers) where it melted several spots down to the floor level under the carpet until I was able to pick it up with an oven mitt and put it into a metal container to let it burn until it extinguished itself. It's probably in your best interest to abandon the idea. Instead you might consider a system of cameras that is powered by your home's electrical system, but switches to a UPS (battery backup) in the event your electricity goes out.

  • QuestionI am looking for a continuous recording to a DVR. So I can view between the motion alerts to avoid missing anything. Does this system do that? Can I recieve desktop and phone notifications to view on either of those devices, like RING does?

    Asked by Anonymous.

    • Answer Yes, this NVR system does support continuous recording The Night Owl 10 Channel 1080p Wire-Free NVR System includes a 1TB hard drive, and while the default setting is motion-based recording (to extend battery life), you can switch to continuous 24/7 recording if you’re using AC-powered (plug-in) Wi-Fi cameras with the system. However, if you're using wire-free (battery-powered) cameras, continuous recording is not supported due to battery limitations. Notifications & Viewing Mobile alerts: Yes, you’ll receive real-time notifications on your phone through the Night Owl Protect app. Desktop access: You can also view your system and recordings on a PC or Mac using our CMS software. • QuestionWhat do you half to do to view footage on your TV. Does this system work with 2 point 4 g wifi

    Asked by Lee.

    • Answer Great questions! Here’s how it works: To view footage on your TV: Simply connect the NVR to your TV using an HDMI cable (included in most kits). Once connected, use your TV remote to switch to the correct HDMI input, and you’ll see the NVR’s live view and menu interface. Wi-Fi compatibility: Yes, this system works with 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi networks, which is the standard for most home networks. Just make sure your NVR is connected to your router via Ethernet during setup for the best performance, especially for remote viewing. • QuestionCan these cameras run off 120v? If the charger is connected to line voltage can it run off that and theoretically never need to be charged?

    Asked by ArthurB.

    • Answer Hello, Unfortunately ,the system you are inquiring about, features wireless cameras that are to be charged with batteries. Night Owl features the same recorder with AC Powered cameras which will use a 12v2 amps power adapter. We hope this helps!

  • QuestionI have 4 existing wired cameras can I hook them up to this unit?

    Asked by Wired.

    • Answer Thanks for your question! The Night Owl 10 Channel Wire Free 1080p NVR System is not compatible with wired BNC cameras. This system is designed only for Night Owl wire-free (battery-powered) Wi-Fi cameras. It does not have BNC ports, so traditional wired analog cameras cannot be connected. If you have existing wired BNC cameras, you’ll need a Night Owl DVR system (not NVR) that supports BNC connections. We’d be happy to help you find a compatible model based on your current setup. — Night Owl SP Digital Support Team

  • QuestionWhat are the battery specs and what are the charger requirements? I tried a number of common phone and laptop USB-C chargers and they drain the camera batteries down to 2% in less than a day instead of charging. An old Blackberry charger finally worked.

    Asked by SUHD.

    • Answer I suggest purchasing a multi-bay battery charger that supports charging size 18650 batteries. I happen to have two 8-bay chargers that accept 18650, CR123A, AA, AAA, C (although because of the diameter of D batteries and the spacing of the bays, you can't fit C batteries in adjacent bays, thus you could only charge 4 C batteries at once and the other 4 bays could charge smaller diameter batteries), and several other sizes.

  • QuestionHow long do the batteries typically last on a single charge?

    Asked by Pket2014.

    • Answer Thank you for the question. As noted by other user responses, the lifespan of a single charge is dependent on multiple factors. Temperature will impact charge. The sensitivity you set your sensors to will also impact lifespan. You have the option to use 4 batteries vs 2 that are included per camera. We also sell chargers and extra batteries via our brand website if you would like to have backups charging while others are in use. Thanks, -Night Owl SP Support team
