“Can the rechargeable batteries be replaced in the field? I go on multi-day hiking trips where an AC charger would be useless. I don't want to carry heavy portable power and may need to replace batteries when depleted. Is the battery easily removed to replace with a spare battery?”

Yes, very easy to pop out dead battery and pop in another one.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.Yes, the Battery can very easily be replaced out in the field. The battery (and SD-Card) Compartment is on the bottom right hand side of the camera. Just slide the latch to the left (towards the Icon that looks eerily similar to the old Pac-Man Symbol). The cover/latch will spring open, and you will see both the Battery and SD-Card. Just push the yellow/orange latch forward, and this will release the battery. Replace with another EN-EL-12 Li-Ion Battery, by sliding the orange latch and sliding the battery all the way in, until the orange latch springs back and retains the battery. Be sure to correctly orient the 3 power pins, when inserting. Close the external Cover and slide the Latch to the right, to lock the cover.
