- Answer Yes, It does have eARC and that works just fine; the issue I had with the TX-NR696 is the fact that Onkyo's 2019 and 2020 units apparently have a faulty digital signal processor (DSP) chip, or a faulty HDMI board, or faulty digital to analog converter (DAC) chips -- so I advise staying away from this model -- Onkyo makes other models, but my preference is models from Yamaha, Denon or Marantz -- Check reviews online such as 'Problems with Onkyo TX-NR696' that mention sound--that was the issue I had--no sound pass though under quite a few circumstances, like changing from TV to Tuner and back -- That should not be a problem for any AVR, especially any receiver costing more than $350...

QuestionMy understanding is the second zone plays analog only - no hdmi. If i have my cable TV connected via both HDMI and component, will the sound play on Zone 2? Do apps like Spotify and Pandora play over Zone 2? This seems like such a limitation for Zone 2.

- Answer Anything you can play in Zone 1 can also be heard in Zone 2, but it will be limited to stereo sound regardless of any sound field settings. My connection to Zone 2 is via analog cables.

- Answer The receiver is great will be a good up grade. I lost a Receiver, 50 inch Tv, and DVR from a cable lightening strike There protection plan is highly recommended with installation bought 60 inch smart tv receiver aperid to be fine but the HDMI took the hit it became a glorified radio every thing après to work cannot be repaired with out a plan . very happy with geek squad found the problems now I have more options did not know I had with the TX-NR686 the TX-NR696 Is great . love to get the original one fixed hope I was help full

QuestionWhat does it mean 4~16 or 6~16 ohms, do your speakers have to be 4 or 6 ohms? can you use 8 ohm speakers? I haven't purchased new speakers or a new receiver in quite awhile and want to be sure what I can use before buying either.

- Answer I just purchased this unit. All seven of my speakers are 8 ohms. Yes, this receiver will work fine with 8 ohm speakers.

- Answer This receiver has line level output for meant only for a powered subwoofer. However, unpowered subs usually have a built-in crossover. So, you will usually have two sets of speaker input terminals and two sets of speaker output terminals on the sub. You can run your two front main speaker wires from the receiver to those inputs and then run wires from the outputs to the actual speakers. Also, when you set up the receiver, make sure you select full range front speakers with no sub. That way, all low frequencies will be directed to the front main speaker wires. Hope this helps.
