  • QuestionWhat is the battery life? How quickly does it charge?

    Asked by Noganator.

    • Answer I installed mine on November 24, 2019, the system prompted me to charge my battery on January 6th, 2020 and the battery was only at about 40%. I live in an apartment complex so I get a fair amount of alerts during the day - 9-15. I left it plugged in overnight but I think the documentation says it take about 3 hours to charge the battery. Hope this helps!

  • QuestionI have 2 doors, will I have in the box 2 doorbells or do I need to purchase a second 1?

    Asked by michael.

    • Answer Each package contains only one peep-hole, doorbell, camera. You will need multiple packages for multiple doors. Also - you won't need the additional plug-in alert part (for $25). The tone from the unit on the door is plenty loud!

  • QuestionCan I get someone to install for me? Cost?

    Asked by Br1arrose.

    • Answer If you’re switching out a normal peephole for the Ring, don’t hire anyone. It’s very easy to do via the directions in the box and they even give you the tool to remove your existing peephole.

  • QuestionWhy do you need to drill a hole?

    Asked by Padres.

    • Answer For the peep hole camera there's no need to drill any holes or deal with any wires!

  • QuestionSorry, but I am a 74 year old technophobe. Someone pounds on my apartment door it in the middle of the night, waking me and frightening my dog. We have a peephole. Will this device record the intrusion and let me play it back to ID the perp?

    Asked by Wanda.

    • Answer Yes, But first the device must be installed in place of the existing peephole and you must have WiFi (internet) in you house as well as a smartphone with the Ring app installed. Once the camera is installed and set up, you will have a 30 day free trial during which the videos will be saved. After the 30 day trial, you must sign up for the storage service or the videos will no longer be saved. The service will cost $30 per year for one device and all videos will be saved for 60 days after they are recorded. The videos can then be viewed on your phone at any time for 60 days or they can be downloaded and saved indefinitely for your use anytime. After the 60 days, if videos are not downloaded, they will be erased.

  • QuestionCan this be used on an apartment door with an existing peep hole ?

    Asked by Upstairsliving.

    • Answer This works great on my apartment door. It will pick up a lot of neighbors walking past but you can adjust the sensitivity of the motion sensor. I mainly got this to monitor deliveries. It's too tall to see most packages but you would record anyone coming to the door that would take them.

      Answered by Brian

  • QuestionDoes it matter how thick the door is?

    Asked by cowboy1.

    • Answer Yes, unless you can find a thread extension for the peephole bolt. A standard door is is perfect length for the peephole fastener. If I may add, this is a great device, you can get notifications with sound and video no matter where you are, as long as you have cell phone connection.

  • QuestionCan the cam be installed through the peephole without the surrounding frame that makes it look different from a simple peephole lens? I don’t want my landlord to know I replaced the peephole viewer with a Ring device, so it needs to look identical outside

    Asked by Bayard.

    • Answer No. This comes kind of in 2 parts. One on the outside (camera, doorbell) and the inside (battery and other stuff). You have to remove the existing peephole. Then the 2 parts connect via a tube that goes thru the hole in the door for the peephole. There isn't any damage to the door. You can put the original peephole back when you move. I suppose it could leave marks or paint may fade differently for those parts covered by the ring device and the landlord may charge you cleanup fee when you move out.

  • QuestionDoes this version have the motion sensors? Or is someone required to ring doorbell before camera comes on?

    Asked by Daddydandan.

    • Answer This does have motion sensors. You can actually even disable the doorbell if you want. This type is strictly for use in a door peephole though. I don't think this could be mounted any other way than THROUGH a peephole on the door. I purchased this after a couple packages "went missing" and my door happens to face the area where FedEx, UPS, Amazon drops off for the building. There is a setting for "people." So now anytime someone walks in that entrance, I receive a motion alert and can watch the Ring stream.

  • QuestionDoes this come with a chime.

    Asked by Ridg.

    • Answer Hello Ridg, Great question! No, the Ring Peephole Camera does not include a Ring Chime. That audio alert accessory would need to be purchased separately. If you own any Alexa devices you are able to use them for audio notifications as well. Here is a helpful article that walks you through that integration process: https://support.ring.com/hc/en-us/articles/360018032731-Doorbell-Announcement-Notifications-Through-Amazon-Alexa.
