A:AnswerNot all phones / tablets are MHL capable. Also try using the plugging your phone in with the extra small connecting thing and without it. Because that small thing is supposed to be the gateway to using older devices and newer ones.
Also make sure your TV or DVD play doesn't have a spcific HDMI port for MHL

It's a hit or miss. When it comes to MHL connection is very bad because it is not standardize. You will have a better luck on Google's ChromeCast or Amazon Fire TV or Apple TV or Roku. I'll give you a hint - From a Samsung cable to Samsung device to a Samsung TV wouldn't even work properly. What more with a different manufacturer.
