Q: QuestionI have an HP z420 workstation - is the 970 EVO compatible and or what hardware will I need to connect it and mount it in a 3.5" bay?

• A:Answer The HP Z420 system board does not have M.2 compatibility. You can purchase a PCIe x4 expansion card that you can then mount the Samsung 970 EVO M.2 NVMe SSD. However, You will not be able to make the 970 the boot drive as the BIOS of the Z420 doesn't support NVMe boot disks at this time. There is no mention of NVMe support on any BIOS release for the Z420 from version 3.88 Rev.A, Jun 19, 2015, until the newest BIOS version 3.94 Rev.A, Jul 12, 2018. There are people that are creating custom "Modded" BIOS files that claim to support NVMe boot. But you would have to try that at your own risk, and your mileage may vary with those as well. A google search for "Will the Z420 Workstation boot from a PCIe NVMe SSD?" should point you in the right direction

• A:Answer Basically your question is how to do it? Easiest answer would be to drop the computer off the the Geek Squad. The can migrate the data off of the old drive and install the new one. You’ll need to call your local store. At the same time you could also upgrade the internal 1TB Sata to a SATA 1TB SSD and have a screaming machine.

• A:Answer You can look up your particular HP module through Google and get the info. According to HP tech specs the motherboard with that particular model does have M2 SSD support. So, I would say yes .

• A:Answer This SSD does not include a screw. Screws for mounting SSD's of this type come with the motherboard or the device you are installing it in. I have purchased several M.2 SSD's of this type for installation, and no matter the brand I chose (usually, but not always, Samsung) none of them included the mounting/holding screw.
