• it can be .... press settings,press heart symbol, scroll down,press continuous... there you go !! it does drain battery a bit more than the standard interval readings ...

• Yes, it will do it at by itself. I don't k own if it's every 30min or an hour but it will track it with or without you initializing it.

• Hi Tim, You can choose if you want it to be continuous or not in the settings. I bought this for my wife and she has the heart rate monitor on continuous during the day but then turns it down or off at night when we're sleeping.
