Is the roller self cleaning null

Not to my knowledge. I have had to clean out dog hair of it once since purchase. But my dog has very long hair and so do it, so honestly I just expect this at this point. I've had other friends without a hair issue that do not complain of this.

The dirt compartment self empties. The rollers however will alert you when they need to be cleaned or untangled of hair.
