  • QuestionIs the remote RF and TX?

    Asked by Jeff.

    • Answer Hi Jeff, thanks for your interest in our Blu-ray Player. We can definitely assist with that! For the BDP-S1700U, the remote is a traditional IR (Infrared) type, not RF. What that means for you is that you'll need to have a clear line of sight between the remote and the Blu-ray player for it to register your button presses. You can find more information about the unit in the manual at the following link: https://www.sony.com/electronics/support/res/manuals/5043/9bf387fdef45845189a891b85b87783b/50433041M.pdf Thanks for considering Sony products! • QuestionWhat firmware version does this product come with? Per Sony website, https://www.sony.com/electronics/support/downloads/00015912, the latest firmware version [M30.R.0527] maybe up to date on newer models.

    Asked by TBarrows.

    • Answer Hi TBarrows, You are correct! The latest firmware for the BDPS1700U model is M30.R.0527. • QuestionCan this be installed vertically on a wall?

    Asked by Customer.

    • Answer Hi Customer, Thank you for asking about the installation options for the Sony BDP-S1700U Blu-ray Disc Player. No, the BDP-S1700U cannot be safely or correctly installed vertically on a wall. The player is engineered to function only when discs are inserted and spun while the unit is in a flat, horizontal position. Installing it vertically or at any angle may cause the internal mechanisms to malfunction, potentially damaging the player or the discs. For optimal performance and to prevent operational issues, the player must be operated in a standard horizontal orientation on a shelf or TV stand. We hope this answer your question, and thanks for considering Sony products! Regards, Dominick

  • QuestionWill this connect to my Sony speakers from my current Sony surrounded sound system? We currently have a 6-channel system

    Asked by NanaKate.

    • Answer Hello NanaKate, Thank you for choosing Sony! We appreciate your question and are here to assist you. The Sony BDP-S1700U Blu-ray player is designed for media playback and does not have the built-in capabilities of an A/V receiver or amplifier. As such, it cannot directly power a multi-channel surround sound speaker system. To enjoy your Blu-ray player with a surround sound setup, you must connect it to an A/V receiver or a separate surround sound system. The receiver will then handle all audio processing and amplification, sending the sound to your speakers. Connection Overview: 1. Connect an HDMI cable from the HDMI OUT port on the BDP-S1700U to an available HDMI IN port on your A/V receiver. 2. Connect a second HDMI cable from the HDMI OUT port on your A/V receiver to an HDMI IN port on your TV. This setup ensures the A/V receiver receives the high-quality audio signal from the Blu-ray player while passing the video signal on to your TV. For more detailed instructions, refer to the "Connecting to your AV amplifier (receiver)" section on page 14 of the official manual: https://www.sony.com/electronics/support/res/manuals/4579/f2b13b14d596d6574a73a689b5d4b0dc/45796631M.pdf If you have any further questions, feel free to ask! • QuestionIs it compatible with a Mac Mimi m1 running sequoia?

    Asked by Angie.

    • Answer Hi Angie, thank you for your question. The Sony - BDPS1700U is designed to connect directly to a TV or monitor via HDMI for disc playback. Unfortunately, it is not compatible with the Mac mini M1, as Macs do not support HDMI video input—they only support video output to external displays. Additionally, the Blu-ray player does not have the capability to interface with macOS systems for media transfer or playback control. It's intended solely for standalone use with a display. We hope this answers your question, and thank you for considering Sony products! Best regards, Dominick

  • QuestionIt plays AVCHD, but does it play an AVCHD disc? That's an AVCHD authored to a DVD disc not a Blue Ray disc. I'll buy another Onn player if it doesn't. Rather get Sony to go with my TV.

    Asked by Dave.

    • Answer Hello Dave, thanks for your question! Yes, the Sony BDP-S1700U is designed to play AVCHD, and that includes AVCHD content that has been authored and burned onto a standard DVD disc. So, you should be able to play your AVCHD discs on it, which is great for consolidating your players if you prefer Sony to go with your TV! Thanks for your interest in our products. Sincerely, Jenn.

  • QuestionDoes this player have audio RCA connectors to connect through a sound system?

    Asked by Anonymous.

    • Answer Hi there, thanks for your interest in our Blu-ray Player! Regarding the BDP-S1700U, this particular model does not feature traditional analog RCA audio outputs. It's designed to provide audio primarily through its HDMI output, which can carry both video and multi-channel audio to a compatible receiver or sound system. Alternatively, if your sound system only has RCA inputs, you would need an external digital-to-analog audio converter (DAC) that takes an optical or HDMI audio signal from the player and converts it to analog RCA.
