Q: QuestionCan this back-up hard drive back up 2 different laptops?I have 2 Toshiba's laptops and would like both to be backed up using only one back-up hard drive. Can this portable hard drive do that? And will their be any type of over-writing of either laptop?

• A:Answer Thanks for your question, Joe. Yes, the NTI Backup software (preloaded on the Canvio Connect II drive) can be used to back up two different laptops. The backed up image will be placed in a unique folder specific to the computer’s name.

• A:Answer Yes as long as you updated your operating system using Windows update. If it doesn't initially recognize it you can allow windows vista to go online to search for compatible driver.

Q: QuestionIs this device compatible with Windows XP?After the unit arrived, I noticed on the side of the box it said it's compatible with Windows 8, 7, etc. I have Windows XP installed on my laptop. Will this be a problem, or might it still work? Just wondering if I need to return the unit.....

• A:Answer This should work just fine for XP, the only thing that may not work is any basic software that comes on the hard drive. The software is not necessary at all, I never use it.

Q: QuestionCompatible with Chrome OS? and or Linux OS ?Is this external hard drive compatible with Acer Chromebook 15 (Chrome OS) ? Also curious to know if its compatible with Linux OS /Ubuntu ? Since I do run both OS on my Chromebook.. I would greatly appreciate the help.

• A:Answer I know for a fact that it is compatible with Chrome OS as for Linux, It's an operating system I have not used, nor am I familiar with it but , according to you, If both Operating Programs are compatible for use on same device, If I were to guess, In most likely hood the answer is yes.Let me know if someone more knowledgable gives you a more precise answer.

• A:Answer 1TB refers to the size. It is listed as 1 Terabyte, but in reality it is less than a terabyte. It is approximately 939-963GB (Gigabytes) because the US does their labeling in base 10 units. Example: 1 Megabyte is actually 1024 Bytes, but in the US we measure it as 1000 Bytes.. (Base 10 instead of Base 2 (binary)).

Q: QuestionCan I organize photos?I primarily want to save photos. Will I have the ability to organize them into separate folders?

• A:Answer The drive operates like all hard drives, allowing you to create folders and subfolders, and save to them however you want. There are folders included on the drive that contain the backup software, so as long as you leave these files intact you can add other folders and files and still use the backup features. Organizing photos can be done using Windows Explorer, just as you would use it with your internal hard drive.

• A:Answer I haven't taken this one apart, but I would recommend going with a laptop drive instead of taking this apart hoping to find a laptop drive inside of it. A lot of manufacturers of portable drives have started soldering directly to the drive boards instead of having connectors on the drive. This saves space, making the portable drives cuter and easier to stick in your pocket, and it also saves on the expense of male and female connectors. Also, if you buy a laptop drive directly, you know exactly what you are getting instead of thinking "is this a 5600rpm drive? Is it a slower one?

• A:Answer If you installed the supplied NTI Backup Now EZ software, invoke it and select the question mark within a white circle in the upper right hand corner of the panel. That will give you the help member, which you can print.
