“Does the software make an image of the PC hard disk? Meaning, can you a) boot and run the PC from the external drive and b) copy the entire saved image to your repaired or replaced internal hard drive and then start the PC from the internal drive again?”

You can do a complete system backup using the NTI Backup Now EZ software that is included with the Canvio Slim II to back up the entire PC. Once you have done the complete system backup, you can create a bootable disk (either using the Canvio drive or USB flash drive) to restore all your data to your PC internal drive.
