A:Answer Yes, my friend. I have a standard Hopper Unit and I am just about done transferring all my data (movies and TV's). I encourage you to read the review I just wrote this morning. This unit works fabulously. It has it's own power source (which Dish says you need) and it is 2 TB (which Dish claims in the maximum). The Dish installer that put my system in about 8 years ago claims that he has a 3 TB WD that he is using. I bought a 4 TB WD and coudn't get it to work at all. I took it back and ordered this one on-line from Best Buy. It has worked super. Only took about 5 minutes to format but will take you days to transfer your movies. My Hopper was 80% full. I've been transferring in groups since Friday. It is now Monday morning and in about 4 hours, it will all be completely transferred. Getting a Hopper 3 in about 3 weeks so I needed to get all my movies off this old unit if I wanted to keep them. If you get this unit, you will be tickled pink. It works flawlessly. It has a blue light that stays on. When you are transferring, the blue light blinks so you know it is working. The WD I originally bought had NO LIGHT. I didn't like that.
