QuestionDoes this work with 10.6.8 OS? Attempted OS upgrades have failed; until I can take the iMac to the local Mac guy, I need an external HD to replace the one (WD) that has apparently croaked. Once the OS has been upgraded, would this HD still work?

- Answer I have used both Seagate and Western a digital drive. They both work seamlessly with any Mac OS from OS 8 and above. Also you can switch between Mac and PC as long as they are files - not Exe files on Windows. Everything else should work like MS Office, Adobe, etc. The only thing I can't do is transfer or read CADD files (like Bently, Autodesk, etc.)

- Answer There is NOT a cable in the box with my disk even though one is pictured and even though it lists a USB 3.0 cable in the Contents list on the box.

- Answer Yes. As long as the files are compatable on both machines (.exe files don't work on Mac, but .jpeg .tiff etc, work fine)

- Answer Yes you can and the MAC should recognize it and link to your Time Machine app. That's all I had to do and I'm nowhere near technologically inclined.

- Answer Will work with older Macs as it is backwards compatible. Apple sells (Best Buy has them) such an adapter.

- Answer The drive is formatted for the Mac OS. Should work as a recording device, but you may need to reformat it.

- Answer No it will not, but not because the hard drive can't do it. A Windows based PC has a file structure different from a Mac. Without additional software, a Mac can read the Windows file structure but not write to it. Unfortunately, a Windows PC cannot even read the Mac file structure without additional software. Since this specific hard drive is formatted as a Mac hard drive, the Windows PC will not properly detect it and will not allow access to it. For a technical person it's fairly easy to get around all this, but this hard drive will not do what you want directly out of the box.
