Forget the Starter Edition
||Posted . Owned for 1 year when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I use Quicken only as a check registry and therefore I purchased the least expensive version as I always do. That was mistake. I cannot write checks using the computer as I could in the past. It is very slow loading and does not always want to load. I am not particularly happy to have to rebuy the program annually but that seems to be the trend nowadays. A month before my subscription ends I am advised to repurchase. The only problem is that the new version begins the day of installation so I could easily lose a month by not being careful as to when I purchase the program. My current subscription ends on April 28 and that is the day I will install the latest and not cheapest version.

Quicken
||Posted . Owned for 2 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Purchased to upgrade obsolete versions of Quicken for my father-in-law, got it installed and worked to get him familiar. He will not need the online access, I have been using Quicken since it was available in DOS.

Quicken for IMac
||Posted . Owned for 4 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I sold my business a few years ago and didn’t need Quickbooks anymore, I needed a simple, nice little personal check book program. There was a learning curve with the switch that may have been easier if i hadn’t switch from a PC to an IMAC at the same time. However, the solutions to questions were easy to google.

Gives me financial piece of mind
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Love this. I had the 2011 and when I purchased a new laptop I decided to upgrade and I don't regret it. I did need customer service to help enable the categories but a quick call and this was resolved. No issues since and I love being able see my balance a year out. It makes it easy to move money to savings with confidence. Definitely helps me stay on budget and I can also see when I can put extra money toward a bill (just paid off my credit card) without causing myself financial hardship down the road.

Good product but don't like 1-year subscription
||Posted . Owned for 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I've used this product for many years but am not happy with the 1-year subscription requirement. I'd prefer to buy the product once and use it as long as I'd like.

Handy personal finance software
||Posted . Owned for 2 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I have been using the Quicken personal Finance management software for many years. It is very handy and works well. The annual subscription price is much more expensive than the old way of purchasing the software and using it for many years until you wanted to upgrade to the latest version

Q: QuestionWhy do I have to keep subscribing to Quicken if I don't want access to online tools? I only want to be able to keep track of what I input into the program. I don't need bill paying or online backup, etc.
Asked by Pookie.
- A:Answer I was also highly disappointed that quicken went the way of “Microsoft Office” program with the yearly subscription tactic. This is nothing more than a money grab. I believe you can buy the program outright for a now astronomical price but the days of purchasing it for under $75.00 are long gone. You might do some research out there for another company/ program that will act as a automatic check book but be very careful on allowing this to connect directly to your bank account to balance. That is the only down side I see. Good luck and post something if you strike gold out there with something similar.

Q: QuestionWhat is the annual fee to update quicken?
Asked by DrBobE.
- A:Answer Depends on what version you’re using. $35.00 and up for annual license.

Q: QuestionIf I just want to use to balance my checking and savings and not get any yearly updates, i.e., not pay the yearly fee, will the program stop working after the year is up?
Asked by Gregk917.
- A:Answer I use the starter package. According to Quicken, you will lose software updates and the ability to down/upload transactions directly with your bank. My advise, ditch the yearly fee, use your banks website directly and transcribe transactions to Quicken. It's a simple solution to Quickens money grab.
