Great Budget Gaming Laptop on sale 7/27/18

    Posted .

This is a great entry level laptop for newcomers and experienced gamers alike. It will play current triple A titles at medium to high settings and most older games ranging from 2016 or before maxxed out. I wasn't even looking for a gaming laptop honestly. This baby was on sale for $579 dollars. Best deal I've ever seen for a laptop with these specs. I couldn't pass up the deal. Best buy is trying to get rid of its 7th gen stock for the newer 8th gen model that just came out. Specs: *i5 7300hq 7th gen ( quad core no hyperthreading) Does the job. *8gb of ram ddr4. Ok for a laptop, Ram is upgradable. *256gb m2 ssd. 1500 MB/s Read and 600 MB/s Write speeds. *Secondary 2.5 inch extra bay for additional storage....awesome! *Backlit keyboard. One brightness settings. That's ok. *1080p ips display. Not the best, but it isn't bad at all. *Internal speakers.....blow chunks. They suck. Gaming laptops are known for having bad speakers, but these are one of those why bother scenarios. I'd rather just not have them installed. The internal fans can overpower the speakers....by a lot lol. But what gamer doesn't use a headset or his own sound system? No one. :) Touchpad is alright. It has a soft touch feel to it which I like. The touchpad goes haywire in games though, but again who uses a touchpad for gaming? Only me....when my mouse it too far away from my reach. #lazy The keyboard is a bit on the soft side, but otherwise it is actually above average. The backlight has one brightness setting as mentioned above. No complaints. I am typing in the dark right now, so it is doing the job. I like having the full numepad. They had to shift the keyboard a bit to get it to fit, but still nice to have. Now, on to the real reason you are here. What kind of temps am I seeing on the cpu and gpu? It's not terrible, but it is something to watch out on for any gaming laptop. Mine idles at around 40 Celsius. Playing PUBG for about 2 hours will get the keyboard a bit warm around the top function keys, but overall the casing does well to not hold heat. You could game with the laptop on your lap as the heat comes out the back not the bottom and sides. I've seen temps reach upwards of 84 celcius on the cpu and around 76 celcius on the gpu when pushing it hard. There are vents on the bottom to suck in air. A laptop cooler would totally help the longevity of the device. The cpu cooler fan is a little freaking jet engine. It can get upwards of 50 DB and pumps out some serious air. Acer should have separated the cpu and gpu more inside the laptop. This would dissipate the heat better. All of the heat pipes are positioned to come out the left back side. It's like putting a small knot in a water hose. The same pressure is being applied, but the water coming out is now turned in half. Could have been designed better. Applying high quality thermal compound like Arctic Silver might help the temps lower a bit. Most manufacturers use low quality paste at these cheap price points. Just a thought. For the price, what can I say? Do I even have the right to complain? I feel like I stole the dang thing. The overall build quality feels above average. It has been a pleasant experience thus far. P.S- For all World of Warcraft players, I recommend putting your settings at a preset of 7 and turn off shadow quality and disable sunshafts. I get about 40 to 50 fps in SW and Dal. Around 90-110 fps in open world questing. That is all from me, This gamer is signing off.

    Fantastic bang for the Buck.

Specs: The ram is single channel mode, ie 1 stick, which allows you to easily add another stick of DDR4. The hard drive is a pcie x4 lane that clocks in at about 1650mb/sec at the high end. The monitor is an IPS backlit, ie good viewing angles with solid brightness at about 260 nits. The GPU is easily undervolted from 1075mv to 975mv which allows the boost clock to sustain 1911 mhz boost with 4304mhz memory clocks using afterburner. Ie 7000 Firestrike score and 2000 Unigine Heaven score on basic settings. The CPU could also be undervolted by -120mv for even cooler temps on the joint cooling system. Under stress loads the GPU never topped 75c the CPU under Prime 95 was 86c under a heat torture test. Fans ramp up by temp under load...but were surprisingly muted even when pushed. Have never seen or found better specs even near this price. Only drawbacks is don't expect to game long on the battery...about 90m if the system is pushed...about 4 to 5 hours with basic browsing and streaming loads with battery power settings. Also not everyone will like the trackpad style. However at this pricepoint you can't nit pick as the performance and options with little to no bloatware is impressive.

    Excellent laptop

Got this on sale at $599 which I think is a good value for the specs. Although it is billed as a gaming laptop, I primarily got this for traditional use, with some light gaming and photo editing applications. It has worked flawlessly so far and barely gets warm. This is my first laptop with a SSD and it is a revelation compared to the boot times of a traditional hard drive. 1080p IPS screen is excellent. I still needed a DVD drive, so I picked up an LG for $20; problem solved. Recommended.

I love this computer. I got it on a flash sale so it was 599 + sales tax. It didn't seem like I was going to find similar specs at that price point anywhere else. A lot of reviews I watched and read were when the computer first came out and the price was much higher. Even at 699 I think this is a great value. I am not a hard core gamer at all, but i do dabble with some things that need a better graphics card than what comes in a regular computer/lap top. This one seemed perfect. It does have a matte screen which is nice, and it seems bright enough. I think I'm used to super bright saturated monitors which aren't necessarily the best, but since it's what I am accustomed to it's what I think everything should be so I think I'm biased there. I think the heat/cooling will be fine for the way I run it. I don't mind the keyboard. It's a little soft, but it's very quiet. It took a while to set up (just the computer getting itself up to date) but that was to be expected. I'm very happy with it and I hope it lasts a few years! It is heavy though- almost 6 lbs i think, and the power brick is quite large and heavy too. I'm using mine at home for the most part so I don't mind that. I really don't like that it collects my finger prints though.

I wanted an affordable gaming laptop and that is what i got. My screen would also time out when on battery like the others but thats not a fault of the computer thats a battery saving setting. I went into sleep settings and set the screen not to blank out on battery. The other reviewers are right the outside plastic feels cheap but i didnt buy it for the looks or feel. I wanted something that i could afford that incoukd game from. So far i have played sea of thieves, fortnite and SWTOR without issue. Its exactly what inwas looking for. If you want soemthing that looks and feels nice pay the extra couple of hundred dollars for that but for me l only care about the internal hardware and this is an amazing deal if thats what you are looking for.

I bought this on sale in July of 2018 to get back into gaming with my friends. I had read about this model for a bit over a week and knew what to expect, great CPU/GPU, speedy and fairly spacious SSD, only single channel memory so I can upgrade to 16 later, an empty 2.5” bay for expansion, and a decent 1080 IPS wrapped in a clean designed case. Notebookcheck has a very thorough review that left nothing to guess. Excellent performance, great graphics at full resolution, good thermals, decent battery life. The only shortcoming, to be fair I knew to expect at this price was the backlight bleed. And it’s prone to fingerprints on the lid I really do enjoy this laptop and recommend it to anyone who games, goes to school, and can deal with some backlight bleed.

We’ve had this for almost a year and only had issues with the sound driver, which was an easy fix. It does really well with normal use and I think students that need multiple processes open would love this machine. It reboots fast and has handled our video viewing, games, document storage, and programs like Blender.

A good bang for your buck in terms of a “cheaper” gaming laptop. I play the Sims 3 and 4 flawlessly but I will say the battery dies very quickly when playing any type of game.

    Good laptop, A few issues

    Posted .

Good laptop for the price, I paid 599 for the laptop on a flash sale. This is a solid price for a laptop with a 1050ti. Only complaints i have is the internal SSD isn't that good, Its alright at best but definitely swap it out with a samsung SSD or anything better. There is no easy access to this driver so the entire bottom piece needs to come off to have access to it. Another issue is that the keyboard backlight times out in 30 seconds and according to the acer forums, there is no way of changing this. Overall 4/5

In my opinion this is the best laptop for $599. Considering it has a 1050ti. This is coming from a PC builder with a Ryzen 1700X and GTX 1080 liquid custom loop at the house. I picked this up for my 2 month vacation to Deleware and I've been very satisfied with the performance playing newer games like AC Origins and Far Cry 5 on ultra settings at 1080p with decent framerates.

    GREAT BUY

    Posted .

I needed a new laptop for work, because I had a cheap hp that was pretty slow. I was intending on buying a Macbook Pro, but when I decided to look at other options, I found the Acer Nitro 5, which ended up being a few hundred dollars cheaper with double the specs. I'm not a huge gamer, but I recently started playing PUBG and that had alot to do with what swayed my decision to get a gaming computer. I am extremely happy with my purchase. It runs the game flawlessly and the graphics look great, especially paired with the Samsung 27' curved monitor I just bought to go with it. This is by far the best laptop I have ever owned and greatly exceeded my expectations. It's really more than what i needed because most of what I use it for is for work, and I just use a web based software. I highly recommend this laptop to anyone though.

    Lightning fast

    Posted .

For starters, I don't use this computer (or any computer) much for gaming. I tried Fortnite on this laptop, and it ran fine for me. No issues at all playing over WiFi. I have always preferred console, but if you're looking for a laptop to play games, this seems like it will do the trick. Now the real review. This thing is lightning fast. I was on a bit of a budget, but wanted something with power and speed. If you're in a debate between a "gaming laptop" and a "normal laptop", but you care about performance more than battery, touchscreen, or whatever else they try to appeal to mass audiences with, go with the "gaming laptop". I am blown away by the performance of this thing. Navigating busy pages, dealing with large excel files, and streaming videos at the same time is seamless. Probably "overkill" for what I do, but I wanted something with speed, and that's exactly what I got. I get about 4 hours out of my battery which is totally fine with me considering there are outlets everywhere, and i'm almost always connected to an external monitor at a desk. The screen is decent, could be a little brighter. The trackpad would be my biggest complaint. It's pretty responsive and completely acceptable, I just don't really like the feel compared to other laptops I've used. I have an external fan under the laptop, but never turn it on. I leave it under the laptop so it has some more room for air. The laptop stays pretty cool after hours of use without turning the external fan on.

Got a great deal on this laptop at $650. The quad core I5 and 1050Ti are a great pairing and can handle most games at high settings. The panel could be a bit better but isn't terrible. It tends to get a little warm in intense games, but haven't had issues with throttling so far. It's all plastic, but nice build quality. Good features and performance from an entry level gaming laptop.

The Acer Nitro 5 provides a great laptop for the price. It handles everything I’ve thrown at it with medium to high settings at 60fps (1080p). Upgrading the RAM and adding a HD for storage was simple. If you are looking for best bang for you buck, the Acer Nitro series is the way to go.

First off I wasn’t big on the brand because I’ve had issues in the past with Acer. However, they really have stepped their game up. I am very pleased with this laptop. It does everything I need and then some. It’s runs fortnite fine, haven’t tried PUBG yet. Battery life isn’t great but I don’t usually stay unplugged for long periods. Very light which I love! Great for traveling I barely notice it’s there. The only bad thing I’ve found is the audio is scratchy coming from the built in speakers. Still trying to find a fix for this. External speakers or headphones are good however. Other than that I love this laptop.

Can run most modern games on medium-high settings 60fps when plugged in. CPU runs below 1Ghz on battery and turbo boosts up to 3.1-3.5Ghz when plugged in. Only complaint is that I had to unscrew the RAM cover and screw it back it in to get the laptop to stop shutting down randomly. Thought it was defective at first but I think the RAM screw is connected to the power in someway so it needs to be tight.

I got this laptop to take with me on the road simply to get into WoW and several other games just to do mail and run the simplest of dailies. Imagine my surprise when it ran these games as well as my older but still high end desktop. And its now on sale for even less than what I paid now. If you are looking for decent portable gaming with out breaking the bank, this machine is worth a good look!

The laptop is fairly well built, the keyboard is dark and only lights when needed unless plugged in annoying orange keys are too dark for my tastes better if they were a lighter color or more control on or off and not on whilst unplugged battery is decent not great . Would go 3.5 stars if I could definitely not a 4
